Ah, we're finally getting lazy and pack all of Nicaragua into one blog 😉 We have only spent a couple of days here and there, so there you go.

Anyway, we started off in Leon, my favourite city in Central America so far. It is a university town, so it's full of students and the atmosphere is great. They undoubtedly have the best steaks in Nicaragua in the whole of Central America. Well, so far anyway. We have spent my birthday in Leon and for the occasion we bought a half bottle of Flor de Cana rum with a bucket of ice and coke. That went down fairly well but unfortunately most places closed early in Leon and there wasn't much partying going on, boooo! It was a good night anyway and at least we weren't too hungover for a bit of sightseeing the next day. There are not many sights in Leon. A few nice churches and the weirdest museum ever. Leon has a lot of history, which I won't bore you with.
The next 2 days we were spending in Granada which we both didn't like very much. It is located at Lago Nicaragua and it was awfully smelly at the lake. Apart from that it is a beautiful colonial town, very well looked after. Most of the buildings have been restored to their old glory. It was very expensive there though and not much to see, that's why we moved on to Isla Ometepe fairly quickly.
That was not the best decision we made as those 3 days were a waste of time. There is not much to do there apart from hiking either of the 2 volcanoes (which we didn't do), hike to a waterfall (which we didn't do either) and visit a few other not very interesting places. It is a beautiful island but we just didn't fancy too much hiking. We were glad to be leaving after 3 days anyway. We joined an american couple we have met on Ometepe (Warren and Cynthia) and went to San Juan del Sur with them.
We should have come here straight away but we didn't know. San Juan is a great spot for surfing or boogie boarding if you like me get hit on the head with the surfboard the first day you try. Boogie boarding is no guarantee for not getting bruised though. I have 2 bruises on my arm to show and another huge one on my leg where a surfboard hit me when I was lying on the beach. I assume surfing is just not for me 😉 We have spent a total of 6 nights in San Juan. Warren and Cynthia left after 3 nights to go to Costa Rica and we enjoyed the beach for another few days. There is not much else to do in San Juan other than surfing but it was definitely great to chill out on the beach for a few days before heading into Costa Rica.

Oh, I almost forgot...the border crossing into Nicaragua was by far the easiest, so far. The bus we went with did all the formalities and we only had to walk across the border. Not freaky at all. All is good until next time, Yvonne and Ed

If you thought Granada was expensive...
...you must have been freaking out in Costa Rica! We're gonna guess you didn't stay long in CR. At least we hope you got to visit a beach or two - they really are quite nice... Hope you're doing well!

Thanks for the advice!
Hi Guys, I trust you are travelling well! We are in El Salvador at the moment, and will be in Nicuragua on Wednesday, and possible on your advice we will spend more time on the Leon side, rather than Granada... Good to hear from you! keep safe. Al
