I woke up early and went all over the old medina. Climbed a few places to get good views of the city. I was at this chicken stall when one woman came and gave an order for like 20 chickens. They took 5 live birds at a time to weigh them and thereafter put them inside this glass box. While weighing you can see the birds crapping all over and trying to fly away. They repeated this process until they had all 20 birds in the box and started a mass killing. Then they took one at a time held them by their neck and made a small cut and put them in this hole for them to bleed to death. Thereafter they put them in hot water, removed the feathers and put them in a plastic bag. Its a really disgusting site and can easily put you off eating chicken.

I checked out a few mosques, I must admit the women here and all over Morocco for that matter are absolutely stunning.

After I finished the walk, I walked back to the hotel and then realised that I had missed the last bus to Chefchaouen (pronounced Shefshavan) and hence had to stay another day in Fes. I went to a cyber cafe to burn a cd and they said they didn't have a writer for me to go to a place away from the Medina.

I walked outside the medina but couldn't find this cyber cafe. So I walked back to the medina. On my way back I bought 2 packets of peanuts one salted and one suger coated. There was a begger woman nearby seated with her legs stretchd out and her head down with a small kid. I bought another suger coated peanut packet and gave it to the begger woman who readily took it but still kept her head down.

Since I couldn’t find the cyber cafe to burn the CD, I went back to the old one and one of the guys asked a friend of his to show me the other cafe where I can get a DVD burned. The place in the medina charged Dhm10 per hr for internet and the place outside charged 5 its amazing how they rip tourist off. To burn a DVD in Marrakech it cost Dhm12 where they provided a DVD and in Fes it cost 20 and I had to give a DVD. I had to burn it because I had only 40 shots left in the memory card with my complusive photographing habit it wasn't goning to last that long.

After burning the DVD I walked back on my own and I passed the begger woman, her head was still down but the little kid recognised me and her face was
soo bright, smiling and waving at me I was soo touched that I had made her happy. Its moments like this that make you realise how much more we can do to put a smile on little kids like this.

I went back to the hotel, took the backpack from the storeroom and went bck to the old room. I was going to a hammam that night. A hammam is a place where local people go to have a bath. I have never been to one before. It cost Dhm10 and with a massage it cost Dhm50. I had no idea what to expect. The women only session was finishing at 10pm but by the time the last woman left it was 1015pm. The men were hammering the door asking the women to hurry up. There was this old man who tried to pull this other guys trouser and this other guy tried to punch anothers pubic region, this was all while we were queueing up to get inside the hammam; reminded me of school when some guys try to punch the others pubic region.

Finally we got inside the hammam building and everyone got into their underwear/trunks in the changing room and went inside the shower area.

Essentially there are loads of buckets and there are two tanks one with hot water and another with cold. They fill each of these buckets and with hot and cold water and then put it on the ground thereby making the whole place warm. I was looking lost as to what was going on and this one guy came upto me, quite a large built guy and said for massage and I said yes. Then he got me to lye on the floor and wore this rough glove and started massaging my back, arms, legs and thighs. The rough scrub felt absolutley fantastic and my skin was pealing away. Then he asked me to apply the head shampoo on my own and he took the shower gel and applied it all over my body. For all those warped heads like me reading this, I was wearing my swimming trunk, so don't get all excited. He was pouring water on me and I washed my face. I can see people just lying on the floor and waiting cause it feels like a steam room inside.

After about ten minutes the massage finished, I got back to the changing room wiped myself and went back to the hotel. On my way I stopped by this shop and had two onion crepes and a yogurt. These crepes they taste soo good. I promised myself I wont indulge in these but it taste sooo good I couldn't resist. I continued reading shadow of the wind while eating the suger coated peanuts and now I am almost done but a few more pages to go.
