a rural scene before we looked at the caves. Waipu is a small town south of Whangarei, and is famous for its Highland games on January 1rst. Luckily we'll be able to go next year! The town was started by Scots who had sailed from Nova Scotia in 1840's I think, in 6 ships. The names of the clans represented are on the memorial. The man in the post office had a real Scottish accent! It turned out to be a good place to do Christmas shopping.
We also drove up into the hills to see the famous caves in the limestone. They are full of stalactites and glow worms, but although we took a torch, we couldn't get very far inside because the ground was really wet and slippery.

Hi Carrie and Alex. I have enjoyed looking at all the entries and have read some of the comments, not all, haven't time! You both look as if you are having a wonderful time. I'm doing this at work and won't have time until after Christmas to look again, unless I actually do get myself a lap top, I keep threatening to.. Have a lovely Christmas and enjoy the highland games. Be careful Alex when you toss the caber, awkward things they are. Lots of love Lynda. PS last concert tonight at Kinnerley.
