These Pohutukawa trees line the beaches, and they flower in December, hence the NZ name
This is the headland at the very entrance to the harbour. The brochure mentioned grassy slopes, and I envisioned something like national Trust in Cornwall. But it wasn't much like that! Spectacular all the same. There were lots of little bays all round, then you get to the ocean and Ocean beach is WILD. The surf thunders in and then sucks you out, and there are great holes under water to fall into. Because the day started cloudy, and it had been dull(if not wet) since we got back from Australia, we forgot the suncream, so when the sun came out and we began to get hot, we remembered we hadn't got the suncream. And guess what colour Alex turned. Luckily he didn't burn, but his arms were very red!

that headland is called Bushy Head. We walked to the end of it, and I can tell you that the path is steep, and it IS bushy!! Good view, though

the only way here is to walk. Again, the waves were very strong, and the beach sloped too steeply to consider swimming. Looks nice from up here though

it looks benign, but there is a steep drop just there.

Just as I took the next picture, a huge wave came up behind me and I was soaked. Luckily, dried out quickly enough.

And we strung some fairy lights. No tree though.
