We took a day trip to the famous Milford Sound. It did not dissapoint! On the way there we stopped and did a 3 hour hike up to a mountain top. The mountain scenery was somewhat similar to at home, but totally different plant life at the top of the mountain. We saw small mossy clearings, ponds, and trees with twisty roots. We also stopped at some mirror lakes on the way to Milford.

To get to Milford Sound you take a tunnel through the mountain that is over a kilometer long. While in this tunnel you descend, so it's a little spooky as you can't see the end! The scenery on the other side is truly breathtaking. The Sound is actually a fiord, which is a valley that is carved out to sea level by a glacier. We took a little cruise through the 1km fiord. We saw waterfalls, seals and mountains that are right on the edge of the sea. There is so much rain here that there is a 3m layer of fresh water on top of the sea water!

Bonus question, can anybody spot anything different about Duane?

We just noticed this on your blog yesterday, Dec. 21. What's up with that? Is it us, you or just a glitch.
