Sao Paulo
Looking out over SP with fellow couchsurfers! Hello All,
Sorry its taken so long to get this blog up and running, but it should be a little more constant from now on. This first blog will just be a basic summerization of our time in Brazil. I wont go into too much detail since: a) there are 6 weeks to cover and b) we sent a few emails already. But here's for those of you who arent up to date!
So as most of you know, we flew into Sao Paulo where we had a bit of a rocky start. I´ll leave that to gregor to expound on that. There, we couchsurfed for about a week with two wonderful guys who showed us the city and SP´s fabulous night life! I wasnt a huge fan of the city itself. As you can see from the photos, it was building after building as far as the eye could see, which was impressive, but not my type of city. The people are what really made the city for me. We were reluctant to leave SP so soon, but we wanted to arrive in Rio in time to have a BBQ with Gregor´s host family and friends. So we
took a 6 hour bus ride through the hills of brazil and arrived in Rio where we were greeted by Sergio. We stayed with him and his wife for a week, enjoying life a block from the beach. Then we stayed with another friend of Gregor´s until we were able to land a job at Che Lagarto hostel (www.chelagarto.com).
We had a fantastic time in Rio, full of beach parties til dawn, breath taking sun sets/rises, long nights of drunken philosophical discussions (love, freedom, happness, and spirituality), roof parties overlooking copacabana beach, and soccer matches drenched in cheap brazilian beer! As well as far too many experiences with drunk/high naked people wondering about. Ah Rio......
Work was an interesting experience, the hostel was always full of people we will never forget. But after a few 60 hr. work weeks, we decided it wasnt making us as happy as we wanted to be, so we called it quits and headed for bolivia a bit earlier than expected. We had some issues leaving the country without an onward travel ticket leaving Bolivia, but we managed to find a shady Argentinian airlines that would give us a confirmed reservation slip without
Alberto
Our first CS Host!!!! paying, which was enough to appease the brazilian airport security. We hoped on a plane from Rio-SP-Campo Grande-Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Upon arriving we came across a few more adventures....but we´ll cover that in the next post!! Until then....
hugs,
Emily and Gregor
