25th February 2004. Ash wednesday This is my third interrail. Interrail may be the
Rue Sainte Catherine
Muy bonita, pero con demasiadas cacas de perro para mi gusto cheapest way to travel around west Europe if you are under 25 and european. I´m excited, I´m going to use my brand new digital camera for the first time. It was the cheapest, so sometimes the quality of the pictures is quite far from perfect. Afterwards I discoverd that the lens had some kind of scratch, so that is the cause of a thin and long shadow in some pictures.
I took the train to Hendaye, in the border Spain-France around 2am (thank you Paco and Joseto for keeping me company). I changed for the TGV to Paris and i got off at Bordeaux station.
What a nice city Bordeaux is! Sainte Catherine street is one of the nicest for it is pedestrian and flanked with the typical elegant XVIIIth century buildings that the city boasts. I wandered all around the city center in the morning: Place Quinconces with the girondins monuments, town hall, place de la comedie, cathedral de Saint André...I don´t know much about historical, artistic facts or others about the city. If you wanna know, wikipedia is all right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bordeaux
As I was fresh and looking forward to knowing more places and had already stopped
Place de la comedie
Una de las que más me gustaron in Bordeaux a couple of times before, i took another train in the afternoon and headed for what it is claimed by the french to be the biggest sand dune in Europe: la dune de Pyle, in Arcachon: 2.800m lenght and 114m high. I thought that it was close from the city center, nothing further from the truth. I walked, and walked and waked until i had to go back to the train station in order not to miss the train back to Bordeaux, so that i don´t miss the train to Toulouse so that i don´t miss the train to Geneva. I walked as far as to take a glimpse of the dune from a considerable distance. Anyway the walk was quite nice, all along the bay and the beach most of the times.
I got in time to the station, and in Bordeaux and in Toulouse, so Switerzland, there I go!!
