So today was my trip to Cambridge. Because I am me, and wake up early for trips and exciting things, I woke up early this morning. So I took the opportunity to go to Zest (the on-campus cafeteria) for breakfast. I rather enjoy their version of the Full English Breakfast. It consists of bacon, sausage, a fried egg, baked beans, a hash brown, a piece of toast, and coffee (or tea). Terrible for me, but oh so delicious!

Then I went to the bus stop and started talking to a French girl named Stephanie. She was really nice and we ended up hanging out the rest of the day. The trip to Cambridge took about an hour and a half on a monstrous double decker coach. The weather was pretty bad, cold, rainy, and gray.

We arrived in Cambridge and got off the bus on the west end of town, across the river Cam from the colleges. The "guide" showed us around for a bit and then left us to our own devices. Before I go any further, I should explain exactly what Cambridge University is- because it is a lot different than anything I had seen before. The University is basically a union of 31 separate and largely independent colleges. The university is mainly an administrative entity and provides the degrees. The separate colleges do the teaching. So this means there isn't one Cambridge University campus, but rather each college has its own campus.

The weather cooperated a little better for us- no more rain at least. We visited several of the colleges, Trinity (where Isaac Newton studied), St. John's, Magdalene's (home of the Pepys Library- where the books are arranged by their size, not by their author), and King's. Most of the other one's were closed to the public- unfortunate but understandable.

In the afternoon we visited the Fitzwilliam Museum. That name makes me happy. It was a good museum with a huge variety of art/archaeological artifacts. I really enjoyed the Egyptian displays- they had a lot of sarcophagi (without the mummies thankfully) and it is just amazing how well preserved they all were. And I had a breakthrough. I have finally seen enough art to know what style/movement I like the best! Impressionism is my favorite- I like the experimental/unique perspectives the artists take but like the fact that they are still painting "real"

things. Monet, van Gogh, Renoir, etc. I now have an art snob identity! Hooray!

After visiting the museum, it was time to head back to Norwich. I was knackered (to use an English word) and slept a little bit on the bus ride back.
