Como estas

So, today is our last day in Peru. We are catching a bus this afternoon to Copacabana, Bolivia (side note, the Barry Manilow song is about the beach in Brazil, which we also intend to go to, not this town). We are in a small city called Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca which is pretty popular because of its proximity to the floating islands, of the los uros people. We took a tour to two of the islands yesterday and it was really cool. There are 45 islands and almost 1500 people live on them. What is so unique is that they are entirely artificial, built out of reeds that grow in Lake Titicaca. The people that live on them are descendants of the original inhabitants of the islands. It is bizarre to walk on the islands because the reeds are soft and spongy, so they give alot whenever you walk. It feels almost like you are going to go right through into the lake. They have to continually replenish the reeds, especially in the rainy season. Definately a unique experience. Anyway, we will be heading farther into Bolivia pretty soon, hopefully checking out LaPaz and Sucre.

Hasta luego!

Bolivia
Hey girls... I love your blog.. so funny to read about all the places that i have been too! bolivia is great. we really liked la paz, and sucre has a great market with amazing fruit for very cheap. are you going down to Salar de Uyuni. the town of uyuni sucks but the 3 day salt flat tours are beautiful. if you go be prepared for bad food and a lot of flat tires...the scenery is definatly worth it though!!! also taking the train between potosi and sucre is really interesting. if you go to santa cruz go to a small town 2hrs away called samaipata and stay at La Vispera organic herb farm...sooo nice. ok..well.. that's all the tips i have for today.. I am so jealous of you two. Have fun! Emily
