Shanghai

After a 14 hour overnight train journey we arrived in Shanghai, it is a complete contrast to Beijing....in Beijing there were people everywhere cleaning the streets, it was really clean. Here in Shanghai it is the China we expected, street markets and people trying to sell you all sorts of tourist rubbish at every corner. The heat also hit us as soon as we stepped out of the train station. On another note we really liked Shanghai, it reminded us of New York in parts, down Nanjing road the street is full of neon lights just like Times Square and in the business district it is full of high rised building, we went on a river cruise to see it all lit up at night.

Traffic is truly mad in China, bikes and cars everywhere...just crossing the road is a challenge even when the lights are red they still come at you from every direction...we have been crammed on buses which is hilarious with a party of 16.

Yesterday we went to the Old Town which is full of market shops and stalls, quite a few people like to shop in the group but some of us prefered to try and find a bar and get away from the madness. We struck lucky, 2 off the group spotted a tea house and the owner standing outside said he served beer so in we went. We found ourselves a little oasis, on the top of the teahouse they had a roof garden with views over the entire city, we thought there must have been a catch...the beer was more expensive than normal...20Yuan thats a massive GBP1.33.

Next stop is Xi'an, after a 23 hour train journey!!
