After a 5 hour speed boat ride on the tonle sap lake from phnom Penh we arrived on the outskirts of Siem Reap to hordes of tuk tuk drivers offering to take us into town. "any hotel you want sir for $1" in the hope that you will hire their services to take you to the temples of Angkor later. By the way I would not recommend this boat run as it is fairly cramped and bumpy. We wished we had opted for the bus instead which also takes 5 hours.

We got a tuk tuk with a friendly guy called Sai. He offered to come back to our hotel later to take us to the Temples. Unfortunately I was rather sick but he took Brenda into town to the markets and then on to the war museum and just generrally showed her around Siem Reap. Thankfully the next day I was a bit better and we headed of to the temples. We were not sure what to expect before we went but I have to say this is an amazing place. Its the largest religious monument in the world and it did not disappoint. Wandering around through Angkor Wat itself was impressive. The steps up to the main temple are very steep and they were slippery due to the rain earlier, but it would have been a shame to come all this way and not climb up to see it. It was well worth the experience The steps are so steep that you are forced to climb with your head bowed towards Budda at the top. Thankfully we seemed to arrive at Angkor Wat at the right time as when we were leaving there was hordes of tour groups arriving. All complete with yellow matching caps!! I can imagine trying to get some decent photos after that with all the super zoom lenses in the way ;-)

From Ankgor Wat we moved to the temples at Angkor thom.
