group at start of trail
Here is our tour group at the start of the trail. Hi all, we have done the Inca Trail and been to Macchu Picchu. It was totally fantastic. Will write blog about it soon. Love Suzanne
I have attached below a page of Sarah´s travel journal.

After waking up in Rachel and my four bed bedroom, we got out duffle bags and headed downstairs. We had a yummy breakfast and Matt, our tour guide sat with us. I was very excited because today was the first day of the Inca Trail. We then jumped on a bus and headed to the starting point of the Inca Trail which is Km 82. The bus seats were really comfortable and the porters were on the bus behind us. We first stopped in Ollantaytambo where we bought our last minute things - walking sticks, snacks and had a toilet stop. After a couple of
Rachel with view to first ruins
After walking a couple of hours we reached these ruins. Absolutely amazing. We saw and explored many more during the trek. minutes into our journey the porters started whistling and talking loudly in Spanish because a porter had gotten onto the wrong bus. We stopped to let him out and then we continued. When we got to the starting point we had a group photo and were handed our snacks which are included in the tour. We got a little bag which had a banana, fruit drink and cream biscuits. We sorted out our bags and lined up for the check point. They stamped our passports and then we went across the mini Golden Gate bridge of Macchu Picchu. The porters are only allowed to carry 25kg each. They are weighed at their own checkpoint. Because of this we are only allowed to take 5 kg each but my bag only weighed 3.5 kg. After we went to the other side of the bridge we started to walk. Today was pretty easy. A slow up and down walk. The only problem was that it was boiling hot and we were wearing warm clothes because our family heard that it was really cold. I wet my hat several times in the stream that is always flowing next to you. When we got
Girls washing hands
Here the girls are washing their hands before dinner as mantioned in Sarah´s journal entry to the lunch spot we washed our hands in our own little tub with our own soap and were handed a drink - it was a red wine colour, but didn’t have any alcohol in it. Instead it was made out of corn! Once we had recovered, we went inside and had lunch. One thing that you should know, if you ever do the Inca trail, do not eat too much soup because that is the first course of the two course meal. The second course is different each time and there is a lot of food. There is normally chips, vegetables and some type of meat. If you are vegetarian though, you get something else. Then Rachel and I had races in the stream with little seed boats that we found. We started to walk again while the porters packed up the tent that we ate in and washed the dishes. Not long after walking they whizzed past us to get to our first camp site so everything was ready for when we got there. When we did finally get there everything was nice and ready. Mum, Dad, Rachel and I got settled in to our tents quickly so
In food tent
What a feast. No chance of weight loss during the trek we had time to look around. I went outside and heard a popping noise and wondered what it was. Then I smelt popcorn. I went into the eating tent and in front of me was a high tea. Well, that’s what my group call it. There was three plates of popcorn and two iced sponge cakes and they weren’t even dented or squashed from being carried on the backs of the porters. They were in perfect condition. Everyone was starving and between the 14 of us we polished down the popcorn and 1 cake (although 2 pieces were left). We gave the other cake to the porters. On the Inca trail you get very well looked after. Then at 7pm we had dinner and I ate too much. It was very yummy. Then I crawled in to the two person tent (Rachel was in mine) and fell asleep straight away. Good night travel journal.
