Got a cab from Nainital to Kathgodam, arriving about two hours before the train was due to leave. It was my first time travelling first class on an Indian train, and have to say I’m not sure it was worth it for the extra money- it wasn’t any more comfortable than second class. We arrived at New Delhi station just before 5am, and I got a tuk tuk to the Park Hotel. It’s one of Delhi’s 5* options, and as got there just as Delhi’s younger movers and shakers were just leaving, staggering home after a night on the Park Hotel’s tiles. I’d originally just booked for the Sunday night, and was preparing to hang around listlessly until midday, which would be the earliest I could get into my room. Sitting in reception, tho, in clothes that I’d slept in (or rather, hadn’t slept in), surrounded by a bunch of drunken 20 year olds, glammed up to the eyeballs, made me feel a bit grimy, and in the end I caved in, and paid the extra to check in to my room earlier.

Having had a shower, breakfast in bed, and generally lounged around for a bit, I went shopping, to N Block Market, where there are a couple of trendy shops, and bought a few nick nacks. Spent the rest of the day lounging round the hotel, had an early night, and left at 4.30, in a cab for the airport.
