What a fab day in the Highlands! We docked in Invergordon, north of Inverness early this morning, & after a rehersal, we decided to catch a train somewhere. We choose Lairg 'cos it looked to be in the middle of knowhere on the map & it was next to a Loch Shin. The train dropped us off & it was then that we realised that the train station was 2 miles from the village...a post bus was waiting but drove off when it saw us! So we set off walking, then we decided to hitch a lift! Eventually a lady stopped...she was a spiritual healer with a spotty dog called William, so the 3 of us piled into her car. Strange lady... She dropped us at the post office & we then had a pleasant couple of hours pottering around the village. My feet were feeling quite sore for some reason, so I was walking more & more slowly...realising that I had a couple of blisters. Back in Invergordon they burst!! Yuk! Why is it that I can walk all around the Cuillins but a walk up Invergordon High St gives me cac blisters?? Anyway, a lovely day for us all, even if I'm walking worse than the passengers!

Life on ship is wonderful! The other entertainment (I use the term loosely) is 'the Man with the Golden Banjo', Steve Galler, who actually looks like my Uncle George! Heard his act last night, quite good fun. Tonight it's a local troup called something like 'Hamish McSporran & his Dancing Bagpipes' mmm, we must go to that! Oh God, someone is trying to play the drums downstairs...throw him overboard please! Oh good, he's stopped!

Anyone back at school yet?? Ha ha! Will think of you when we're strolling round Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands tomorrow. Will get up early to video our arrival(with Peter Maxwell Davies in my head). Heard from my new school today, got heaps of pupils... 19 I think, plus more to come!

Off to the cabaret...have I actually written a blog without mentioning food???

Sounds like you are having a great time. All I can imagine is that due to the ming-ing nature of the 'Gentleman Hosts' you are trying to get out of the 'Scottish Country Dance' night by complaining of blisters. I usually go the whole hog and involve doctors/nurses/paramedics etc to make absolutely sure there is no danger of me having to dance, but your 'blisters' are a reasonable excuse - well done. I 'Googled' Steve Galler who has a web page, but sadly no sound clips. Wait a minute I'll look on YouTube. Back in a mo.... Nope. Nothing there. Take some video and I'll post it. Enjoy the Orkneys. Dont forget to visit the quaintly named village of 'TWATT'. (No, seriously readers, there is a village by that name on Orkney!).
