Hi again.

It is now our final afternoon in Iceland and the good weather has ended, but we were very lucky for most of our week here.

It is an amazing country for natural wonders and so little publicised compared with many others. Over the last couple of days we have driven around the south of the country, staying last night at Vik, the southern-most town. As we approached it, the rain arrived, so did not get the chance to look at puffin nests, the usual fabulous rock formations etc. But not to worry, as earlier in the day we saw some great glaciers, glacial lake full of floating icebergs where we took an amphibian trip etc. etc.

Food again last night was excellent with a fish called Arctic charr which seemed a little like trout, but typically expensive by Australian standards. Some say the Icelandic currency is over-valued, but whatever the cause it does make travel here expensive. Many people bring sleeping bags so they don´t need to hire linen each night, but we weren´t up to that. It normally costs around 700 Iceland kronor or $14 Australian for a sheet, pillowslip and doona cover on top of the basic bed fee, so anyone coming for a while might consider throwing in that sleeping bag.

The country seems to abound with golf courses, but Heather does not play, so was not tempted to play a round. They all advertise playing golf under the midnight sun, but June is better for that -- although we could have done it in Svalbard if time had permitted.

On to Russia leaving Keflavik in the early hours of Friday with Iceland Air, then four hours at Copenhagen before a shortish flight to Moscow. Will be very different and drinking the water, trusting the locals etc. will be entirely different. Hope to catch messages there.

Thanks for all messages, and apologies if I haven´t been able to reply today.

Georgie

good luck in Moscow
Apart from the expense it seems Iceland has a lot to offer. Good luck in Moscow - having dinner with Janya's mum on 15th to catch up on her time in Russia recently. Bit different for a local however. Love, Ros

Hi Ros
Good to hear from you. Had over a day in Moscow now and thought of Janya as we wandered around. You will see the first comments. Massive and impressive city, but hard work getting round. Cheers Georgie
