We drove through the Smoky Mountains and listened to some bluegrass music while taking in the sights…it’s all about the music!!

On the way to Nashville we stopped in Lynchburg, TN to take a tour of the Jack Daniels factory. It was an hour long tour and 104 degrees out…very enjoyable 😉 LOL We went to the charcoal kiln, the original office, the distillery room and the mellowing room and wandered through the grounds. We had fresh lemonade after the tour and Jared got a limited edition bottle of Jack Daniel’s. We walked around the town (which consisted of a ¼ mile radius of stores all selling Jack Daniel’s memorabilia) and got ice cream cones to snack on.

From Lynchburg we headed over to Nashville. We checked in to the hotel at about 7 (it was a total dive) and they gave us the best room in the place…it was filmed in the movie “A Thing Called Love” with Samantha Mathis. The movie is about 20 years old, I actually remember watching it when I was young!.

Once we settled in….I mean, once we took all valuable out of the car…we got a cab and went down to Broadway to find some food and good country music. Our first stop was a cheesy tourist store where I got a great cowboy hat for $13.00. I have ALWAYS wanted one, and what better place than Nashville? We walked over to dinner, Jared in his Jack Daniel’s hat and me in my cowboy hat…. We went to a local grill/brewery (we were the only ones wearing hats in there!). Jared and I shared a crab and artichoke appetizer ( I know…life is rough isn’t it!?) . I had hazelnut crusted chicken with the BEST cheddar mashed potatoes EVER! After we stuffed ourselves (and tried a few pints of the Red Ale) we walked around to find a good country bar. We ended up going to the Irish bar up the street!!! There was an Irish band playing and no cover…okay, twist my arm! We had some Smithwicks (ahhh) and hung out with the locals.

We got up at 8:00 to head over to Memphis. We stopped at a true Tennessee diner and ate eggs, country ham, toast with gravy (they were out of biscuits so I improvised), grits (eww….I still have nightmares of eating cream of wheat when I was a child), oj and a tomato (gotta get some fruits and veggies in).

From there we headed out to Graceland to see the King....

Hi Shari- It's so much fun to read your traveling stories - thanks for sharing. Can't wait to hear about Graceland. It's nice to meet you through your stories, keep them coming! Just wondering-what is Smithwick's? Candy (Jared's Mom)
