Dressing up
Me as the Gangster and Carrie as the Can Can girl When we were leaving New York we thought that it would be a good idea to empty some stuff from our backpacks into a locker to take off some of the weight as we were coming back to the same hostel 4 days later. When we Arrived in Buffalo we realised that we had left the lonely planet in the locker so not only did we have no map to get to the hostel in Buffalo but no number to even contact them. We asked around the bus station to see if anyone knew where it was but nobody had much of an idea. We eventually found someone who gave us rough directions so we started our hike to look for the hostel. When we were walking threw the town centre there was a free concert on playing music and loads of young people running around everywhere but we didn't really care all we wanted to do was get to the hostel and get into our room so we could chill out but it looked pretty good we were just to tired, the next day we were heading to the Niagra Falls.
When we got up the next morning Carrie was
Niagra falls Bridge
Me and Carrie crossing over into Canada dying with the cold so we decided to leave Niagra to the following day and just stay in the hostel and chilled out. Thought that would be a good time to fix up our blog and replace all of our photos that were lost in the crash and get it up to date. The following day we got up at 8am and made our way down to the bus station to catch the number 40 bus to Niagra Falls, it only took about 30-40 mins on the bus which was great!! long haul bus journeys are a nightmare. As soon as we arrived at Niagra Falls we headed straight for the bridge that lets you cross from the U.S.A into Canada- we got our passports stamped again for Canada and off we went, We walked along the rivers edge and got our tickets to board the Maid of the Mist. We were lucky enough, we were in the first 20 odd people to get on the boat so we managed to get a good spot. On the way in you got handed your waterproof coat and you definately need one because you and your camera gets drenched!! but it's all
American Falls
Colin with the American falls in the background well worth while. The boat trip only lasted about 15-20 mins or so but its 1 hell of an experience, Any wonder its in the top 20 of the worlds most "must see" places.
After our journey on the maid of the mist we made our way up the rivers edge to the Horseshoe (the canadian's side of the niagra falls) and went into the bar with a balcony which overlooked the falls for a pint. We relaxed there and then headed up towards the casino to see if there was an all you can eat buffet!! We were Starving as usual!! When we got there we went for the buffet and then checked out the casino. It was nothing like Vegas.... you couldn't smoke and there was no free booze so we legged it. We walked around the shops and amusements for a while and then just chilled out on the grass in front of the Niagra falls for an hour or so in the sun until 4pm. At 4 o'clock Jay Cochrane was skywalking!! this guys a complete nutcase.... not only is he 200ft in the air about to walk a tightrope about 400ft long, but he
Maid of the Mist
Carrie with her wee waterproofs on. had absolutely no safefy gear nor equipment to save him from smashing into the ground. All he had was a pole that he held horizontal to balance himself!! really impressive and its free thats the main thing lol!! So we watched that for half an hour and then we walked around the town for a while and came across a shop that took pictures of you dressed up in old style clothes, I was dressed up as a Gangster with the pin stripes and the tommy gun and Carrie was dressed up as a Can Can Girl. The clothes were hanging to bits but we managed to pull it off, it was funny the shape of us 2 running around the place dressed up like a gangster and a hooker lol !! but it was worth the money.
We had a few more hours to kill until it was 8:30pm thats when they turn on the lights to light up the Niagra Falls so we went to a Bar for a pint and some wings to munch on. There was a Karoke on, that was quite painful at times but some of them weren't to bad so we just
Crossing the Border
Carrie - just crossing into Canada killed some time here. After wondering around for a while it started to get cold, we weren't prepared as usual. I only had a wee skinny jumper on with nothing below and all Carrie had on was a Vest top! it was Freezing. So we waited until the falls got lit up and changed colours, we took a few pictures and then started making our way towards the bridge to cross back into the states, for some reason it cost us 50 cents each to get back and then we had the customs guy stamp our passport again- unreal crossing a bridge to get to another country.
Our bus wasn't until 10:10pm so we went into the Casino on the American side to kill some time. It was much better, you could smoke and the drink was free. The only bad thing was its much dearer to gamble on the tables than Vegas so we grabbed our free beer and legged it for the bus stop. Sitting waiting for the bus, and this black woman sat down and started talking away to us telling us after hearing where we were from, that her grandfather was irish and that her
HorseShoe Falls
From the Canadian Side sister had a baby girl that was black with ginger hair lol We've noticed that almost every American that we've been talking to has Irish in them somewhere along the line threw the generations!! Us Irish are everywhere !! LOL her stories made the time go in a bit quicker, then jumped on the bus and headed home. Arrived in Buffalo an hour laster and walked to the hostel, straight for bed as we were shattered, on the go all day and night so straight out like a light. The next day we just chilled out updated the blog and never went out the door. Every time we go out we spend a fortune lol so it was definately a good idea to take it easy. Our bus leaves at 12:30 am and arrives into New York at 8:30am on the 20th.... just 1 night in the hostel and then onto the Hudson Hotel for some Luxury!!!! Whoooo hooooo!!!
