This is the waterfall they all jump off in the film "The Beach"
We decided to take a little detour on our way back to Bangkok, as we wanted to check out Khao Yai National Park, which is apparently Thailand's first national park.

We stayed in a fairly basic hotel in the town of Pak Chong (nearest town to the park), and it was actually an unexpectedly cool experience. It was a very un-touristy place, which was a nice change from having been in quite a few places like Vietnam where you sometimes feel very much a tourist, almost herded to different places. We were just about the only non-Thai people in the town, which did lead to quite a few inquisitive stares, but in a nice way. Everyone there was so extremely friendly and helpful, the people were great. We also had some delicious food from the stalls at the night market!

We made our way to Khao Yai and it was a nice day, but we underestimated the size of the park, it is truly massive! We saw a really nice waterfall and some striking scenery, and we actually also managed to see some wildlife; wild deer, hornbills and a monitor lizard.

We've been in Bangkok a couple of days now, sorting things out before we head south for some scuba diving on Ko Tao! :-)
