Ready to take flight

Hi there

I know I say it often, but divorce can be liberating. No more holidays sitting around the pool of a five-star hotel with a long cool drink and a good book, but sorties at all comfort levels to all points of the compass.

This time the direction is north, as far north as I will have been. Back in 1971 I reached Narvik in northern Norway, just to be able to say I had approached the Arctic, but this time it will be slightly further to Svalbard -- still part of Norway but islands much further north and level with northern Greenland.

Hope to see some polar bears and Arctic glaciers before they all disappear, then down the east coast of Greenland to Iceland, then a brief glimpse of Russia.

It won't be quite as solitary as walking the camino in Spain, but it is always lovely to hear news from home and friends, so hope to hear from you along the way.
