Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle and old town. Edinburgh was alive with people of differing nationalities enjoying six festivals - International Festival (the arts), Festival Fringe (2,050 shows), International Film Festival, International Book Festival, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and Military Tattoo. I enjoyed some Fringe comedy shows, including Australian, Adam Hills. Naturally I had to visit The Book Festival, which had books (obviously) and authors giving talks and book signing. There were street theatre performances on the road leading to Edinburgh Castle (The Royal Mile) and costumed people handing out flyers for the myriad of different shows. I spent one day exploring the city, visiting the birthplace of the Harry Potter books and in the museum, Dolly the sheep. My last day was spent at the ornate and stone-carved Rosslyn Chapel with its Knights Templar (Da Vinci Code) connection.
A very big thank you to Mel and Charlie for looking after me so well and making my stay such a pleasant one.
I left Edinburgh by train, travelling through London and onto Lille, France. The trip to France was on the Eurostar, going through the Tunnel,. I spend one night with my friend, Alison, who has just recently moved to France from Australia. I continued my

Edinburgh with street theatre in the foreground. train journey from Lille to Mulhouse, France (near the Swiss border) via Paris. In Paris I had to change trains and train stations, it was raining and I got lost and had to use my high school French to ask for directions! (I managed to make myself understood.) Tony's family welcomed me at the train station at Mulhouse.
