Uyuni - not a great town and it is very cold there. We only went there as a stopover to go to the salt planes (Salar de Uyuni). The Salt planes are huge lakes of salt. We did a day trip to the salt planes in a 4x4 jeep and it was really amazing. It looked like snow everywhere but it was actually salt. If you go make sure you bring sunglasses and lip balm!

Next we went to Tupiza. We had the bus ride from hell from Uyuni to Tupiza. There´s not really a proper road so we were driving up dried up rivers, along sand, through fields and along really dangerous bendy roads with a sheer drop down to the bottom of the valley! The bus being really bad didnt help. The scenery was really pretty though if you could look out! Plenty of llamas annd alpacas almost knocked down on the way! The journey took around 8 or 9 hours which wasn't bad but it was so bumpy.
Tupiza was a little warmer, still very laid back. We went horseriding here it was great fun and very cheap 6 euros for 3 hours!!

By the way....Happy 21st Birthday Grainne!! Hope its brilliant!

Wish We Were There,
hi niamh and stephen, I'm an old friend of your mums niamh and i am really enjoying your south american adventure.... aahhh to be young free and single again when the world is your lobster! My husband martin and I had a wonderful evening with Nollaig and Danny last night they are such lovely people and great craic. We had a couple of glasses of chile's finest in the central hotel after a lovely meal. I'm looking forward to further installments of your round the world trip. Sure if we win the lotto tonight we may even get to see these far flung exotic locations for ourselves, meanwhile i'll throw another shirt on the ironing board and dream on . All the best to you both. Maureen Lindsay
