A FIRST YEAR BIRTHDAY PARTY AT BUNYAVILLE

What to do with childhood memories?

Bunyaville State Forest, located 12 km north of Brisbane is 620 ha of regrowth woodland and open forest. Vegetation on private property links it to state forest in the west. The pictures will show that this is typical Australian bush. Green brown in colour, scrubby, sticky (as is lots of sticks) and at the moment very dry due to the drought. Although not a big "forest" it is located in and very near to lots of suburbia, so it is a quiet respite in Brisbane for both people and animals. Many people go walking and bike riding and school groups also go for educational purposes.

I have many memories of this place from my childhood. Whatever the reason we had many picnics and celebrations here. Our family could often be found down here. Easter, car rallies, family times, picnics, holidays etc. Though over time we moved onto different places we all still remember Bunyaville! It had great swings (now probably deemed too dangerous!- as they are gone!), creeks, ponds, bridges, turtles, guppies, wide spaces for a bit of football and tiggy.

All the perfect ingredients for a wonderful childhood.... (que violins playing and dreamlike haze!!)

But enough with the reminiscing….. ha ha ha..... back to reality.

I was called back to bunyaville for my nephews 1st birthday. We started the day by taking a few sunrise pictures as a gift for him. I like to think that the sunrise of the beginning of your first year makes a nice gift to look back on as you get older.
We get there and do a drive around of the ring road (some of it being dirt - thus making our car nice and dusty- a few skids at the husbands enjoyment 😉 and settle in for a few hours...

Well all the good stuff is gone, no swings, no water at all… so I suppose no turtles or guppies.. hopefully they walked onto greener pastures 😉 there are a few bridges around the park which look funny as there is no water to be seen. So the creeks and ponds which we spent many an hour trying to catch guppies and watching dragonflies are gone but the trees are still there so plenty good for

a birthday party.. Being winter there were no other people there so we had it to ourselves too…

Well apart from some very friendly Kookaburra's that sat in a tree very near by. They weren't scared off at all even with the excited kids about ( I say they have stolen a few sausages off the BBQ) but I was excited to get some photos for this blog!

The children had a great time… they did say.. "but mum you said there were swings here!!" I had warned them that there wouldn't be any turtles but I didn't know that the swings would be gone. But there was lots of green space for them to run and play in, a bridge with which they played “billy goats gruff” and lots of junk food and a wonderful made for a wonderful day!

A wonderful brunch and a cute caterpillar cake....yummy yummy food- muffins, croissants, juice, danishes, fruit, jelly cheescake slice 😊 - my favourite. ooh all so good

Enjoy the photos
