China's "Made in China"

So I've used my new bike 4 times: Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. I was coming back from school today, and guess what happened? The pedal came off! My right plastic pedal was on the floor! So sad. Can we say cheap?! I know my bike was cheap, but on my 4th use? Oh well, that's Made in China for you. So there are bicycle guys on every other street corner fixing flat tires, pumping air, etc., and I went to one of them near my apartment. He (bicycle fixer) told me that I should upgrade my plastic pedals to steel ones. I reluctantly agreed. Bicycle man put on brand new steel pedals (woohoo!) on my cheapo bicycle for 15 rmb. Not bad. While I was waiting for my bike, I asked the guy next to me how much he paid to get his tires pumped. Although tacky by American standards to ask how much someone paid for something, I tend to ask other local looking customers to I make sure I can get that price or better. Anyway, he told me that it costs 1 rmb. He then asks me if I have a pen and paper and starts talking on the phone and writing. Then when he returns my pen, he hands me back half of the paper that I gave him and he gives me his email and phone number and says that I can call him if I ever have any other questions. Chinese sure are opportunists, huh? I politely thank him for his help, but told him I hopefully won't have any other bicycle problems. He actually seemed very nice and was pleasant looking - not the typical local looking Chinese man (he was tall and healthy looking, probably on huskier side by Chinese standards). His downfall was his hair: lip/chin- length, and he was wearing a plastic headband. Granted it was a thin black one, and I know that it's hot and he needs to keep his long hair out of his sweaty face.... sigh.
