Today was very international. We had breakfast in Interlaken at a really nice hotel, following a panoramic train ride through Switzerland that was unreal. None of the pictures I took come close to how beautiful it really was.

Lunch was served in Geneva where I also broke down and had my first frapuccino from a Starbucks. I think that means I went 10 days without, which is something.

Also- the weather is finally getting warmer! By the time we made it across the French border I decided to leave Toni´s coat behind. Last I saw it, the coat was headed to Lyon. I hope that someone headed to Germany found it and will make good use of it. I also hope that Toni was serious when she said she didn´t want it back.

We arrived in Avignon, France to be greeted by yet another festival. We didn´t do a lot of research and planning before the trip as you can see. Due to the festival, there were no hotel rooms available in the interior of Avignon. We spent the first hour roaming the streets being turned away. Then Mom left me at a restaurant to guard the luggage and see if she might have better luck by herself. When she came back a bit later she didn´t have a room, but she did have an idea.

¨We´ll just stay up all night. It will be fun.¨

I was scared. I knew that it might sound fun in theory but that it would be miserable by 3:30 am. What can I say though? My mom is a wild one. We had dinner (mussels-excellent- thanks for asking) and thought about our situation some more. I checked back at one of the hotels, The Hotel Bristol, where the receptionist had been a bit warmer than the rest. When I did there was a new woman at the front desk named Anne who was moved by our plight and offered to help us find a place outside of the interior walls (Avignon is in a walled fortress). We love Anne and we love the Hotel Bristol. She found us a place at the Hotel Cube just a few minutes away and then made reservations for us at the Hotel Bristol for a second night in Avignon. Problem solved!

Before we headed over to the Hotel Cube, we walked

Geneva was super international. Felt like everyone we saw was an ambassador. I ate a hamburger and felt that I was representing my country as well.
around the town center a bit. Anne was nice enough to hold our luggage while we did. Now, my mom has been here once before and loved it, but there was no festival then. This was a very different kind of festival too as it was a thirty day theater festival. All the theaters all over town (and there are a lot) are booked from morning until night with short plays and performances of all kinds. To get people to come to the shows, the performers roam the streets and put on mini-performances and pass out flyers. They all do this in their own unique way. Some sing songs, some use puppets, some do actual excerpts. Also, there were the usual fair type booths and a carousel to boot. It was kind of magical and I almost wouldn´t want to go back again unless it was during this same festival. We´ve seen a lot of great places on this trip, but this one is special.

We stopped here for breakfast and watched everyone go up the ski-lift. A few years ago my friend Gina went bungee-jumping here. A week after she did it, the company closed because of a tragedy. They had given the short bungee cord to the person making the long jump and the long bungee cord to the person making the short jump.
