Not a bad view . . . but we had to work to get here.
Thanks for your patience with our previous Spanish message .... now the English version!

After our long 4 day week of classes, we headed to the coast! We left Friday morning, bright and early at 6am with Val and Eric. It really wasn´t a problem getting up since the rooster is helping us with that! We took a public bus leaving from San Jose and it took about 3.5 hours to get there. Again, glad we took dramamine, the route was incredibly curvy and bumpy, but pretty - the vistas are so amazing!!! Vale la pena! Once we got there, we checked in to our hotel and headed right to the beach. It was super hot and sunny, which we were so happy about because last week was quite rainy here in San Jose. It was nice to escape to the sun! We spent the whole day on the beach, and didn´t burn too bad. It was a great atmoshpere- lots of people out and huge waves to swim in, really good icees being sold on the beach, and of course the vendors trying to sell everything under the sun. After a long day on the beach we preceded

to walk over a mile up hill in the rain to a restaurant someone had told us about that supposedly had chicken fingers. We never did find that restaurant, but had some great food at another place!

Saturday we had a huge breakfast all for $3... a plate of fruit, pancake, eggs, toast, gallopinto y cafe... what a deal. It was raining, but still hot, so we went to the beach, rented chairs and an umbrella and swam in the ocean. There were lots of surfers we had to dodge, one that almost took Andy´s head off, and a man trying to kayak which was pretty amusing to watch. He spent more time trying to get his kayak flipped back over than actually kayaking. After another full day at the beach we went to an all you can eat spaghetti supper that hit the proverbial spot! Not that we don´t love rice and beans, but we were craving something a little different. We ended up staying at this place all night where we met a bunch of people from all over the world (Canada, UK, Israel, Australia, France, Spain, Hungry, Germany) that were staying there.

Sunday we woke

SJ and Val complete one of their great dreams . . . swimming in a waterfall in Costa Rica.
up early, opened the door, and a small deer was right outside our door... 1 yard away. It was tame like a dog and about that size too, kinda weird and we were wondering if we were back in WI. That morning we went to the National Park in Manuel Antonio which was another natural marvel! We saw many monkeys, hermit crabs, a sloth, lizards, other weird animals, and Val and Steph swam in a waterfall. There was also some great look out points where you could see really far along the coast. Another great trip! Ah, la vida....
