We woke this morning at our hostel to gentle rainfall. Our plans were to see Brussels on our way to Paris. As we drove the two hours to Brussels, the rain was coming down in sheets. We finally made it there. I wasn’t to impressed. Our first stop was to look at the European Union Headquarters. This building was heavily guarded so we just took a picture from the outside. Next, we drove into the city center. It was probably some of the worst traffic I had ever seen. We looked at some of the old buildings and then headed back towards the freeway.
We drove for another few hours and the reached Paris. We tried to navigate our way to the hotel that Nic’s girlfriend, Tori, was staying at. If I thought the traffic in Brussels was bad, I hadn’t seen anything yet. After being lost for over an hour, we found a wireless internet spot and downloaded the coordinates of the hotel. We had far better luck finding things with the GPS than we did by driving directions. I guess when the put the streets together over a thousand years ago, they weren’t thinking about people driving to them in a car.
The streets of Paris were crazy. You have thousands of cars with no lanes of traffic. Plus, there are scooters and motorcycles weaving in and out of all the cars. I was very impressed by the skills of the motorcycle riders. Because of all the distractions, it was hard to take in any of the sights. We quickly located the hotel and met up with Tori and her family.
We went out with Tori’s family to see some of the sights and the ate a nice dinner at one of the many cafes. We then headed back to the hotel and slept on the floor. It was nice to slept somewhere where you knew some of the people for once. Tomorrow, Nic and I are going to see the rest of the sights of Paris.
Check back on the Amsterdam page, I updated it with a small movie.
