Well, after lord knows how many months, we've managed to make it into Chile again, this time in the very far north! (having left from the very far south! This time, possibly via the messiest of all border crossings, but that seems to be the norm here.

As per peruvian usual, early bus departure, and leaving over 30 minutes late. made it to Tacna in time, but as per peruvian usual again, there are plenty of vultures, sorry, cab drivers yelling at us before we've left the bus!

Border crossings per taxi are the norm here, 5 paying customers per very old and big amarican car! We run away from all those hard selling lads, and hide in a diner for some food. then try to get on a bus, but the smart feller manages to get us in a (more expensive) taxi anyway.

At the peruvian side, we have a bag check (the messy kind, which leaves you to repack everything very quickly), a car check, and then get our passports stamped. Done! At the Chile side, we get the passports stamped, and bags scanned..... a bit easier. And before and after that our chaufeur manages to keep his foot down most of the way!

Ecerything here is still desert, dry, very dry and dusty! Arica is no exception, but you immediately feel you're in a different and much richer country, better roads for starters!

Arica
Arica is pretty much a one-day town by tourist standards. Yes there are museums, but not much that could fascinate us. At least they have very good food here as well! And at the end, after walking up the cliff, enjoying the "views" of town and the pacific, with some lovely vultures circeling our heads, we head down again and hide away in an internet cafe.

One interesting point to mention here is that the church, old customs house, and I think what is currently the Peruvian consulate, are all designed and built by Monsieur Gustave Eiffel, yes, the same guy who made that Parisian landmark!

Interesting, but as said, one day will do here. Either way, it was nice to leave Peru on a high, and enter Chile with a nice dinner !
