I was planning to check out Sagarda this morning but there was a time issue, the bus to Banawe was supposed to leave at 2pm, but apparently they are having mechanical problems so I wont know for a while whether or when it will leave, I am keen to get there today as I want to see the rice terraces at Banawe before heading to Manilla tomorrow.
An American woman travelling alone was murdered near Banawe a while ago so I will need to be careful even though everyone says it was an unusual incident. Still better safe than sorry.
Two little boys just ran in and yelled 'Hello Americano' cute but a little insulting LOL.
My leg from ankle to thigh is a sickly yellow today, and at times gives me some discomfort still it could have been worse, I may post a photo of it later.
I am enjoying my time here cant believe a week has passed already still I have time to see much more. I just realised that I hadnt checked my visa period, lucky I am good to leave without requiring an extension.
The bus finally left at about
2.45pm which was only 45 minutes late and began winding through the mountains between Bontoc and Banawe again the roads are terrible, at the top of the mountain about half way there is a huge statue of the Virgin Mary.
After about 2 hours we entered Banawe and the terraces just blew me away, I have seen many impressive things in my travels but these are definately up there, I went to the Greenview hotel which guess what, has a greenview, then wandered for a time around the souvenir shops before visiting a bar which had some live music, which wasnt bad except it was mostly country and western, before returning to the hotel for dinner.
The next morning I rose early as usual and went and booked my bus ticket for Manilla, the bus leaves at 8pm and arrives at 4am (you beauty). Then I contract Julio and off we went first to the viewing points for the Banawe rice terraces then on a 5 hour trip over some shocking roads to see some other terraces.
The Banawe terraces are mud the others are made from river rocks and as you can see, are harvested at
different times, some terraces have two harvests a year, Banawe has only one.
I think on that trip I saw more chickens, pigs and mangy dogs than ever before.
When I got back I ate some lunch and went back to my room I paid extra so I could have a nap in the after noon, but as usual things didnt work out, there was a marketing conference next door with this screaming woman who wouldnt shut up and of course it ended at the time I had to check out.
I am now just killing time till the bus leaves I head up to the stop at 7.30pm.
Next stop Manilla
