Well I've had a few very eventful days with not much down time in between.. but it has been completely worth it in every way. Not many people can say they've done some of the things I've done recently, and I'm lucky to be able to say I have.
First off, I did what I have wanted to do since the beginning of the trip.. I ate a KANGAROO BURGER! hahaha.. Yes I searched out a place that had them and me and 2 blokes from Sweden hunkered down to experience our first taste of kangaroo.. I must say, it is surprisingly good. I didn't know what it was going to taste like really, but I didn't think I'd like it.. but it really does taste pretty good.. Very flavourful... Unfortunately, I really couldn't get over the fact that I was eating Kangroo, and felt a bit ill afterwards. BUT! I would reccomend that everyone tries it for sure... if its cooked properly it's good.. I've been told otherwise it's really tough and not very pleasant..
So that's the tame first night in Cairns that I had.. This was followed by an extremely crazy event... I went.. SKYDIVING! And
My Tandem Guy
Its getting CLOSERRR My Tandem Guy
Its getting CLOSERRRit was INSANE. insane. Who would have thought that I would ever jump out of a plane.. I certainly didn't think it would actually happen... BUT I DID!!! And I have no regrets. The addrenaline that you get from it is instant.. and.. fantastic. It's a high like no other (I'm pretty sure)..
The night before, I was calm.. and the morning of, I was definitely calm.. I was excited even.. On the beach watching people land I was like.. oh yeah.. I can't wait!! Getting strapped into the harness I was more excited and kept singing lets get ready to rumbleeeeee to the guy.. On the Bus to the airport from the drop zone I was all smiles, and jumping out of my seat.. I even asked my tandem sky diver if we could go first.. He promptly said yes to that by the way.. Anyway.. So we get to the airport and onto the plane.. and the door is left open.. now this is a first. My legs could easily be dangling out of the door. Another first. But I still wasn't scared!
I was joking around with the whole skydive
crew and the rest of
OUT THE PLANE
AHHHHH!!the people on the plane, and it was all good. I started singing my favourite song.. lets get ready to rumble.. and was posing for the handy cam that they were filming my dvd with... I was finneee..
The view from the plane was also amazing. It was a completely cloudless day. Blue skyed, sunny, the water was an incredible colour, and you could see the great barrier reef, and the light reef areas around the little islands that were close to Mission Beach, where we were landing. It was amazing to see everything from that high up, I would say better then the helicopter ride at the 12 Apostles. Everything looked so small, you could see boats tearing through the blue fabric of the ocean, but besides that, it all looked perfect and pristine. Definitely a view I will remember.
So, we have been flying for about 15 minutes, to a height of 14,000ft, and my tandem skydiver guy starts pushing me to the edge of the plane. I'm on my knees walking towards the door. and I'm thinking aww pretttyy.. until he says okay ready? aand theeeen I
freak out. hahaha.. I FREAKED OUT! Well.. okay
How far up
I didn't freak out that much.. I didn't cry or scream.. but I remember saying.. OOOH MYYY GOOOD.. OOH MY GOD.. OHMYGOD.. YOU"RE GOING TO HAVE TO PUSH ME!.. PUSH ME!.. andddd (yes sorry mum) I did yell out some obscenities. As I'm sure any normal person would (?) Anyway.. I was yelling this at the guy.. and suddenly.. BAM we're out the door. and it's INSANE..
The thoughts that go through your head are pretty interesting. All I could think was.. Why am I jumping out of a plane.. DID I REALLY JUST jump out of a PLANE?!?!.. No I can't have.. No.. Did I!? OMG I"M PLUNGING TO MY DEATH!.. And you think.. HOLY HECK.. I AM! I REALLY AM! WITH THIS STRANGER ON MY BACK!.. (and yes I write in caps, because you are yelling at yourself in your head.. well I was anyway).. and for about a minute.. you are thinking about alllll that you have to live for and how it must all be a dream that you just jumped out of a plane.... This especially happens when the guy on your back
decides it's a good idea to start making you spin and
WOOOOO
barrell! (AH!) And I must admit I did scream.. quite loudly I'm sure.
Then... the chute opens.. And you think.. ahhh how nice is this.. this is very nice.. look at how beautiful this is! (I was also thinking.. jeez my ears hurt.. because I'm sick, and they aren't popping properly and jumping out of a plane and falling at immesurable speed causes your brain to hurt like heck when your ears aren't popping)
And you enjoy the view for a few seconds.. and then he stars moving the damn thing and you kinda freak out a bit thinking well this doesn't feel natural.. please stop.. but.. after awhile you get used to it and you go back to enjoying how beautiful the blue water looks and the beach, and how peaceful it is, even with a stranger on your back, it is breathtaking up there. Unbelievable. I wish I had a camera because I'm sure I would have filled up my memory card with pictures..
And suddenly you come crashing back to the ground.. completely safe.. and thinking..........
I WANNA DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!
It was amazing. I have no regrets.. how ever expensive it
Parachute
is.. (which it very much is).. But it was a once in a lifetime expereience (maybe not) and it was worth it.. especially since you get a scenic flight thrown in with the thing.
The company I went with was Pauls Xtreme Skydive Australia in Cairns.. They were all really nice, and really experienced by the look of it. So I definitely reccomend them. It was so fantastic. I am still on a high just thinking about it!
Plus, I have a DVD so many people will be able to see me jumping out of a plane.. hahaha I had to get it just to prove I did it to myself and to everyone else.. AH! Awesome.

OMG!!
I am so jealous... mostly because i don't think I'd be able to do it, i think I'd make it to the part where you started freaking out.. only I'd stop there! I'm so excited for you!! maybe one day I'll go skydiving, but even if I do, I won't be able to say I went sky diving in Australia. Glad to hear you made it in one piece:P
