By "Big Trouble" I mean no trouble at all. And by "Little Australia" I mean huge Australia.

Australia was to be my last stop for 6 months. That changed to 9. First I stayed in Sydney, which is every bit the big city with big skyscrapers and big ideas. Of course I saw the Opera House, of course I saw the Harbour Bridge.

But it was Melbourne where I would lay my hat for the coming months, and I wasn't disappointed: it is the most cultural, attractive, easy-going and cool city anywhere. There is always something going on, whether it be the free music performances (of which there are many), the art exhibitions, the festivals, the Grand Slam tennis or the Grand Prix.

I lived in St Kilda, a sea-side suburb full of bohemians and freaks. It is charaterised by cafes opening on to the street with live music, and cool restaurants. We had a little apartment, a fine collection of wine and a black cat, Mariah. As in Big Black Mariah, the Tom Waits song, not that devilish hag.

By day I was a shirt-wearing office slag, but that was enough to fund the next and final part of my travelling.

We had many great trips such as to Annie's bush house, along the Great Ocean Road, and to Phillip Island.

Christmas in the sun was a bit strange, but who needs the cold?!

.... Tune in for the next exciting installment when we travel up the East Coast.....
