When getting off the tourist bus from Hoi An I was quickly surrounded by hotel touts. The bus drops you off right in the middle of the hotel district and the touts sit back all day waiting for the chance to pounce on a tired foreigner. I kept telling them that I already had a hotel and they kept answering back to check out their place. Didn't get the hint that I wasn't interested, but after walking 500m they get up.

The place I stayed at was tucked in a little alley off of 66 Le Loi st. It's a main road that runs along the Perfume River. There are plenty of places there for budget travelers. I took a nap and was ready to hit the town.

After walking a bit, one of the many cyclo drivers came up and offered me a tour around town, but all I really wanted to do was walk and get some exercise. He answered back, "Then you peddle then". For some reason I said ok, and jumped on the back and started to peddle, with him sitting comfortably in the front seat. Got more than a few stares because I think it's the first time a tourist has peddled a local around. It was fun and I did get some exercise. We went by a pagoda, the citadel, and some of the older houses in the area. Hue is a beautiful city and there's plenty of sites. After awhile we took a break and he treated me to a noodle soup and sugar cane juice. It was a good first day there.

For the second, I did a tour of the demilitarized zone. It was located 2 hours north and on every corner in town they advertise tours. Funny thing is that most are all the same tour and on the same bus. The tour was ok. We went to a tunnel that many Vietnamese lived in during the war and some other historical sites. I think we spent more time on the bus and restaurants than actually touring around. The day went quick because I met up with my fried Andy, whom I had met in Hoi An. Chatting helped to kill the bus time.

On my third day I just rented a bicycle and went around the city. It is a very bike friendly place with flat roads that are in relatively good condition. It proved to be very relaxing.

With the days flying by, I decided it was time to leave.

next stop, some place north.
