So finally we arrive at wellington on the north island. After a few days there and visiting a very impressive museum we head north for some more neck breaking activities. Lake Taupo was our destination and our (martin an i ) first sky dive.
So finally the day arrives and we drive up to the small airplane hanger. I wasnt really that nervous at all as we signed(our lives away) in and got into our suits. I suppose the first thoughts of doubt entered my head when we were 17,000 feet above the ground and the door slides open. I was second in line and watching the girl infront of me a she disappeared in a millisecond out the door.....feck....i thought(or something less publishable). As i stood at the door attached to the guy i cant remember what i was thinking staring down at the ground. The guy pushes us out and we do a few spins. I remember feeling my insides fly all over the place but after that i dont remember much more of the 60 second freefall. There was just too much to take in like the sensation of falling, the noise of the wind the scenery around
Mount doom
me which was spectacular, it was like a sensory overload and in the end not much was taken in a all only that when you land you want to do it all again straight away. It was brilliant fun!
So after a quick lunch we thought we would have a quiet afternoon by going rafting again and this time to the highest comercial rafting waterfall eh in the world. Again after a quick briefing on what to do when you fall out of the raft (which there was a 50 50 chance of at the falls) we were of again paddling like hell. We went down a few small waterfalls which were still quite fun in preperation for the big one. As we turned a bend we could here a deep loud rumble ahead, we were ordered to paddle fast towards it. The rumble was now like a jet engine roaring past you and just as we reached the top of the fall the guide ordered us to hit the deck. All we could do now was hold on for dear life and crouch on the floor of the raft as we tipped over the 8 meter
drop. Again
Rafting
like the skydiving and for the second time that day for the next few seconds i dont remember much. I dont remember free falling just holding on to the raft and being absolutley pounded but 1000s of litres of water falling on top of me for 4 or 5 seconds til we finally floated away to safety.......it was madness and again i would loved to have done it again......great craic!
After Taupo we headed to Rotarua which was a nice town apart from one thing....the smell.....there were 1000s of geysirs and boiling pools and bogs in the area which pumped sulphuric gas into the air and made the whole area smell like rotten eggs at times. It was disgusting. But i had one of my best nights here. It was a saturday night and those pussy vikings were "tired" and staying in on their last saturday night in new zealand.......of course i was speechless at the mere suggestion so i headed out on my own to check out the town. The bar right beside the hostel seemed a good place to start since there was live music and plenty of people. So in i head to
the bar and
happy days
order a pint. The pint arrives and as im taking my first drink i turn around to check out the bar only to see everyone staring at me........i was in a bar fully of native kiwis....... no white peole just meself. Now you know the size of these lads they are 6ft tall and 18 stone by the age of 10. Even most of the women were easily 6ft plus. It takes a second for me to realise where i was and think i was thinking "eh.....shit, drink the pint and get out"(well i wasnt gonna leave a full pint there was i). Anyway soon afterward i was approached by some of them and as i stood there looking up at about 4 or 5 of them standing around me the conversation went like this.....
Huge guy: Youre not from round here are ya
Me: eh no not really. is this a kiwi bar only? (eh like fecking duh)
HG: Yeah more or less....dont get many other people in here.
Me: ok ill head soon.
Huge Girl: Nah dont worry stay and have a few.
So i was introduced to about 10 different people one
who was called Michelle the
North island
others i cant remember who were all really cool and we had a great night. They took me to some great bars and finaly a club. God those lads can drink i tell ya.......was impossible to try keep pace with them, even some of you bigger lads would have struggled i tell ya but it was a great night and one of those experiences you go travelling for so a big thanks to Michelle and her mates for that!!!! :o)
The next day we went on a short hike along river which was scenic and good for sweating out the beer the day before. It was a great few days in Rotorua and Taupo
