.....if we lean out a little....
So, I have found an internet place w/USB ports....however they all have Windows Vista or the system doesn´t recognize my USB.....who knew that in the middle of South America, where you can't flush the tp that they would have the lastest system program. Anyway, apparently the SD card reader that I have to read the memory card for my camera is not Vista compatible......hopefully I can find a older system somewhere, otherwise I will be very disappointed. The other adventure is figuring out the keyboards here. For example, although the symbols are often marked the same as our keyboards, they rarely produce the symbol they are marked with. And it seems that every keyboard is different, so what works on one may not work on the next. That means you´ll have to forgive some creative use of symbols in addition to creative spelling!

Anyway, after yesterday´s brief log, we didn´t get much accomplished. We walked through the ¨real¨ Cusco to get to a market near the train station (which really wasn´t much to talk about) to kill sometime before we went to meet Renan´s brother Hubi Zuniga who is a dentista here in Cusco. (Renan for those who don´t know is a veterinarian from Peru I met while working at one my clinics). On our way to the market, we both needed el bano, and luckily we found a pay public bathroom in a pretty little park. Or maybe not so luckily - we both agree that has to have been the worst bathroom experience we have ever had. And we´ve had some doosies (sp?). Not only was it filthy, there was no means to flush, and apparently the one sole price (about 33 cents) did not include tp. ICK!

While at the market, Stef started to fade, so we headed back up toward Dr. Zuniga´s. His office hours are odd - 3pm to 7pm. And we had to wait for about 20 minutes in the blazing sun. We had both forgotten how strong it really is up here. I had had a mild headache all day and the sun was making it worse. And, as it turns out, the office was closed for the Festival of Corpus Cristi! So, we trudged back to the hostel and took a nice nap.

In the course of trying to catch some sleep, we discovered that, while our little hostel near the Plaza Des Armas has its pluses, it had a few drawbacks - one being that the day long Festival with all its music and pagentry was less than a block away. One of the other pluses - our room being conveniently located across from the lobby bathroom (good for double bathroom emergencies), also means we are very near the lobby, and we can hear everything out there - and they can hear everything in our room!

And, I can´t write about the sleeping situation without mentioning the pillows. They are flat as flitters as Dad likes to say. And so far, my best purchase by far has been the little travel pillow that I purchased in the Atlanta airport! It has saved my neck literally.

Stef´s altitude sickness pills have really helped her, and boy, after our nap did I wish I had gotten some. I woke up with a massive headache, and as we were getting ready to go out to dinner, I suddenly got quesy and according to Stef turned green. It hit me like a hammer! Stef was kind enough to get me some chicken soup from across the street, and that plus the pepto, advil, and some rest helped me wake up almost normal this morning!!

Today´s plan is to see some churches, try to meet Hubi, and get our train tickets to Machu Picchu and Puno. I expect my next entry to be more about Cusco and less about me!!
