So here I am. Finally in Thailand. After years of anticipation. Unfortunately the fun had to be delayed by 24 hours due to a malfunctioning tummy that necessitated the toilet to be close to hand for a while. But it gave us a chance to recover from Sam's birthday night out in Laos, so it's not all bad.

Chiang Mai is the jewel of Thialand. That is because most people come directly from Bangkok, and its a lot more relaxed and chilled than Bangkok. We came from Laos and it is hectic. Just walking around the streets, seeing English people that you would find on the Spanish Costa's is a bit of a shock to the system. But its still good.

The first night is Cup Final Night. One of the highlights of my year since 1984. I have always loved the Cup Final, and tonight was no exception. We bumped into Bryn and Charlotte (again) and the girls arranged to go to the night market leaving us to watch the footie, kick off 9pm local time. Score! Just as the match kicked off a team of 4 lads from London walked into the bar that we had first met in Saigon. Then Julie & Emma, 2 lasses from Preston first met in Hanoi, walked in. None scripted, all random. It was a fantasic night that went on till about 5am and involved lots of Sambuca. Shame about the match really, but at least Wembley is quite nice.

The next night we decided to check out a bar that we had been told about that was staffed entirely by Lady boys. Thats a sight for sore eyes. None of them were particularly convincing, but all were flamboyant. One of them brought Jenga over and played a couple of games. She/ He was olympic. The game got down to the last 3 possible bars before fall over. Then She/He disappeared with a rather seedy looking gentlemen and we left.

All in all a bit of a shock to the system. We did not really do much else. For Bangkok awaits....

a tad concerned
Mike, you mention the lady-boys were not particularly convincing. In what respect do you mean - were they naked or something ?
