Possum
our camp Possum in Broome. He eats children in their sleep. We made it! 4000 kms and five and a half days later we rolled into Cairns. Leaving tropical Broome, we traveled through the barren red centre before arriving in the tropical mountains of northeast Queensland. Along the way we got close to come saltwater Crocs at a crocodile farm in Wyndam and had some close calls with animals on the road in the Northern Territory. The highways in the NT have a 130 kph speed limit which is great for traveling large distances quickly, but dangerous when stray animals run in front of your car. In one morning we had a wild bore and a large feral dog run in front of our car. If it wasn’t for Clay's "Andretti-like" driving we may not have survived. Another day a giant hawk was eating road kill in the middle of the road, as we approached at 130kph the hawk turned and stared us down until Clay swerved around the bird. The hawk was so big we named him "Mr." Mr. Hawk is the biggest bird we have ever seen and he gained our respect that day.
Overall the drive wasn’t too bad; if we were to do it again I would
Cable Beach
Sunset Bocce at Cable Beach recommend air con and alot of coffee and red bull. There is some stretches of roads that are dead straight for kilometers and it's easy to slip into a conscious nap. We also passed some of the infamous "road-trains". The longest "train" we passed was 50 meters long! That's a tractor and four trailers, you definitely want to avoid a head-on with one of those.
We are going to be in Cairns for a while, working a bit and diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
