So, our second day in the Galapagos and our first day diving in 4 months! When we got on the boat this morning we met all the other divers who had their Advanced Open Water PADI course and 20 odd dives under their belt. They even told us all about their dive to Gordon's Rock yesterday where the current was so strong that they had to cling on to the rocks to stop themselves disappearing into the ocean! Great i'm thinking... sounds like fun (not)! Where we dived today was a lot calmer though and you just kind of went with the current (before our mums worry themselves to death)! The journey out to Floreana took us 3 hours and the sea was roughissimo! I felt really rough and Simon threw up (although i think he just did it for the attention)!!! The first dive all happened a bit quickly and as we were thrown into the water it all got a bit much for me. Our Divemaster told us we would go down to about 25 metres (we're only certified and therefore insured to 18 metres) so i panicked! Hyperventilating in big waves with some spanish dude saying 'tranquillo'at you ain't that much fun so i got out so that everyone else could dive without me holding them back. Simon said the dive was good though and they saw sharks, turtles and loads of fish.
On our second dive i had calmed down and the sea wasn't quite as rough which helped. We were however diving next to an enormous wall of rock and the waves crashing against that were enough to strike fear into the heart of any diver! I did, however, manage this one without any problems whatsoever (thank god because diving here isn't exactly cheap). We ended up going down to about 30 metres (Ooops...not sure how that happened) but i felt perfectly safe and in control which made a change! We saw turtles, loads more fish and sea lions which was really cool. They swam right up to us and weren't at all scared of us. My squeals of delight at every turtle and sea lion meant that the divemaster knew i was feeling alright!!
After the second dive we had some lunch and then went snorkelling in what is, apparently, the best place to snorkel in the Galapagos. And we saw.... nothing! Well.. we've been spoilt. We did see lots of cool fish (i saw a flourescent turqoise one which was cool) and some enormous starfish but no sharks and only one turtle!
And so night falls on another great day in the Galapagos. As for tomorrow... we don't know what we're doing - probably blagging our way on to an 8 day cruise which would mean no more daily blog entries (i'm sure you're all crying into your cups of PG Tips right now)! Lots of love to you all and see you soon dooshbags xx
