Ah, Sunday, the day of rest. I suppose I should be praying for my Saturday night transgressions. I'll start by putting a disclaimer out there to any family members that may still have some sweet, innocent image of me they are harboring. The blog you are about to read, and the posted pics show me at my drunken best here in Tokyo. Actually, I've done a lot of editing, so you all get the (mostly) G-rated shots. Michi wouldn't let me delete any from her camera, and I said I was alright with that as long as she didn't publish them. ;-)
Wondering what exactly they contain??? Hehehehe... Nothing too scandelous, but embarrassing enough.
Anyway. Our Saturday had a late start. I was up by 8am, as I was in bed soon after midnight, but Michi didn't come crawling home until 5am from the night before. She was great about getting up by 1pm or so, though, so we were showered, together and out the door by 3pm. The first stop was a spaghetti place that Michi loves. She ordered pasta flavored with sea urchin, roe, and squid. I know I said was here to expand my culinary

look at those dresses! horizons, but that was too much for me. No thanks. My pasta did have some interesting mushrooms, other veggies, and salmon, all in a very buttery, soy sauce base. Carbs Carbs Carbs!
Stuffed, we hopped the subway to Harajuku, the area of Tokyo famous for its alternative types. I'm not sure if Gwen Stefani had it right singing about the Harajuku girls "wicked style," but great people watching at least. Harajuku is a huge tourist area as well, so it was PACKED with foreginers as well as Japenese youth. It reminded me of an extreme version of Broadway on the hill at home. Very extreme, as Seattle is a village in comparison. We were hoping to get a good pic or two with the Harajuku girls to demonstrate just how crazy they dress, but didn't. After some wandering, we grabbed an afternoon coffee at a cafe with a wall of windows facing a busy street & sidewalk. Perfect for people watching. Michi said this was an area where a lot "pretty" people lived, and we certainly saw quite a concentration just watching them all go by.
Next it was on to Zara, this great clothing store, to buy
Harajuku crowds
people people people! a pair of jeans. Was wishing we had this in the States. Reminded me of Club Manaco, but with more than gray, black, and white color options. Very cool stuff, and not too expensive.
We were home by 6:30 that evening, and it was grooming time for the upcoming night out. After much primping, and trying on of various outfits, we were finally ready and out the door by 8 or so. We met Michi's friends, Reiko and Izu, for an awesome dinner in Shinjuku. Outstanding shashimi, Korean style barbeque pork, edamame, some Japanese checken skewer, and yummy yummy fresh sesame ice cream. A few photos from dinner are here. I'm looking forward to posting a food blog, so again, stay tuned for more about eats towards the end of the trip.
Content, but not too full, we departed the restaurant and were off to the gay area for drinking, dancing, and come-what-may. The first stop was a bar called Dragon. Didn't get any pics, as Michi was hestitant. She said that Japanese culuture is not nearly as open about homosexuality as other countries, and possibly some locals would be nervous about being photographed. The bar was probably

people watching half or three-quarters full with foreigners, but we still held of on photos until later. My shyness got the best of me at this first place before the liquid courage set in. It was a relaxed atmosphere and Michi, Reiko, Izu, and I were able to enjoy a couple beers before asking a local where to go next. Apparently girls aren't welcome in all the bars. A friendly resident escorted us down the block to a bar & dance club called Arty Farty of all things. Too packed with a lot of foreigners, but still a good number of Japanese. It was mixed crowd, so the girls felt welcome. We'd all had a few by this time, and Michi and I switched from beer to Vodka, so drunkeness quickly ensued. And dancing. Lots and lots of dancing. Not a lot of room on the dance floor, but it was still a blast, as you can see.
Izu left at some point during the madness, and the rest of us girls stayed until about 4:30am. Then we stumbled down the block to a tiny bar to the sidewalk and tables situated there. We all hydrated with some much needed water
Saturday night
on our way out.. and reviewed the night. I still had a lot of energy from the Red Bull and Vodka, so I ordered a Vodka Tonic at this little place. Lord knows I didn't need it, but I was still "out" so I went for it. A couple guys walking buy struck up conversation with us, and then one of them got into a big argument with the manager of the place. The manager was telling them they needed to order something or leave. According to the staff, one of the guys talking to us has a reputation in the area of chatting it up with out-of-towners and trying to get them to buy him drinks. Michi, Reiko, and I were having a normal conversation with him, and nothng seemed threatening, but the manager and he really got into it. By the time the threats to call the police started, we decided it was time to go. Besides, it was well after 5am.
We took a cab to Reiko's subway station, and Michi and I walked the rest of the way back home. I put on a little, very drunken strip show, which Michi caught on film. I posted a couple of

nice atmosphere the pics here, but the majority I don't want floating on the web. ;-)
We passed out sometime after 6am, but as those of you seasoned drinkers know, we slept like crap and were awake by 12:30 or so. Unable to sleep and hung over, we vegged out in front of the TV. So here it is later in the afternoon, we've had some pizza, and I typing away.
What a night.
