Wombats
So cute! We have been in Melbourne for almost a week now. We decided to pay a little extra this time and get an apartment instead of a hostel. That way we get our home comforts like a kitchen so we can cook all our meals and save money, and also have a washing machine, tv, dvd player, our own shower, and our own beds - its bliss! Our apartment is in St Kilda which is about 15 minutes out of the city centre on the tram, this is where most backpackers tend to stay. We have been down to St Kilda beach and along the pier, where we found some Italian guy in the water picking up the star fish and throwing them on the rocks - apparently he didnt like them very much. We sat on the pier for a while it is really nice and peaceful down there.
We have also been on the Neighbours tour which firstly took us to meet one of the cast - Libby Kennedy who although she hasnt been in it for a while she was one of the better characters so that was cool. Then we went to Ramsay street and saw
Baby Wallaby
This is the one i wanted to take home! all the houses the characters live in, it was strange being there after seeing it on T.V. and it was smaller than i expected. It was really strange seeing normal people walking out of the houses. The tour guide gave us hints of what will be happening soon in Neighbours, although i dont watch it at home i have been watching it out here because Sarah is here and she gets withdrawal symptoms if she doesnt watch it. We went to visit the different sets like Grease Monkeys cafe, carpenters mechanics, and Erinsburgh high school. When we drove around the back of the set we actually saw some of the cast members playing frisby (Steph, Rosie, Fraser, Zeek, Ringo), some of them may not be on T.V at home yet because i think Oz is 3 months ahead.
Another day we went into the city centre looked around the shops, we are trying to get prepared for New Zealands winter so i bought a beanie hat, katie bought a beanie hat and a coat, and sarah bought a coat and gloves. Then we went to a cafe in town that sold the nicest sandwiches!
Yesterday Katie and I
went on the Philip Island trip. Our first stop was a winery, where we sampled 5 different wines and 2 ports, it was really pretty there. We tried some of the grapes too and they were really sweet but they didnt look like grapes they looked more like black currants. Next we visited a wildlife park which was really cool because we got to hand feed wallabies and kangaroos. There was one baby wallaby that i really wanted to bring home he was so cute he hooked his paws on to my hand while eating the food in my hand - so cute! The kangaroos were a little scary just because they are so big and keen to have food so they jump towards you! aaah! But i love them. We also saw dingoes, a scary emu (those birds are evil), and a crocodile. Me and Katie had our photos taken with a koala (but we werent allowed to hold it), then we asked if we could hold the wombats and have a photo taken. So katie had one called Tara, and mine was called Rosie. They were both 10 months old and weighed a heavy 10kilos! So cute! Mine
had a bit of wind though which wasnt so nice! But loved them check out the photo!
After lunch we moved on to Cape Woolamai where we walked along the beach and then went to see the Nobbies, and Seal rock. There were no seals on seal rock though, but we did get to see a good sunset. Next on the agenda was the penguin parade we drove to a beach where there was already loads of people sitting and waiting, and we sat at the front and waited. Within 15 minutes little fairy penguins started popping up on the beach, after fighting their way out of the sea they made their way up to their burrows. It was awesome to watch it was dark and cold but they had lights on the beach so we could see them waddling passed us, they werent bothered by us at all and just carried on up to their burrows. I couldnt get any photos of it because photography was banned in case we scared the penguins. Apparently there was about 1000 fairy penguins in all but they tended to come out of the water in groups of about 30ish. We even
got given a free penguin toy hehe. On the way back we stopped for pizza and then got dropped off at about 9pm. It was a really good day!

Hey Dare
OMG! I wanna hold a wombat! how weird was it being at the neighbours set, Sarah must have been exploding with joy, too bad she didn't get to meet Carl again, tho Libby is his daughter so thats pretty cool. Did you ask her how she and darren were doin? As you can tell I am having trouble distinguishing between reality and fiction today. Its the exams, they r jumbling up my head. Thanks you for my well wishies, I am bricking it, they start a week today :s, but they r all in the one week which i am quite glad at, so they will b over quickly. You should see if there is a Home and Away tour at summer bay, you never know deb u might be able to meet ur long lost sister, Sally! Moochos Loveos Claire x x x x x
