Getting higher
gymnastic skills required Construction is going very well. We finished the first half late Tuesday night. It was a very long day but we were determined to do it and were pleasantly surprised at the end when we lit it from inside and were able to experience an unexpectedly amazing space. Wednesday afternoon the boom truck arrived to move the structure off the platform. All went smoothly and the structure seems to be stable. We got the platform ready to start building the second half and took the evening off... well deserved. Today we started construction again and will work in three shifts per day until it's completed. We take the whole thing to Turku on Tuesday and put the halves together to make one building.
I have definitely established during this project that my career goal is to run a design-build firm. I love being able to participate in the construction of my own design and see the space come to life with a little hard work.
On another note, I have not been able to find a summer job here in Finland in an architecture firm. It seems that speaking Finnish is a requirement if you want to work
in all but the biggest international firms which are too big for my liking. I have however accepted a job offer from
John Fleming Architects in Dublin and will be going there at the end of May to start work June 4. It will be an awesome opportunity to get experience and I will get to spend the summer with Richard which is a first. I'll be a little sad to leave Finland as I haven't seen much of it yet but I'm sure I'll find things I like about Ireland as well.
I'll try to post pictures of the completed 'Puuntalo' before I leave for Ireland.

Very Impressive
I am very impressed with the design - not quite as intricate as my addition to the Guigenheim - but overall very impressive!
