lights are on and there’s a baby screaming, wincing, crying, doing everything but sleeping...just like me. i got a few hours of sleep, i think. she’s blonde and a stinker, with the Boo-style pigtails and a devilish smirk; and all her parents have done to remedy her is walk her around so that everyone can be woken up. on a lighter note, i feel some reassurance because the woman i’ve shared the plane ride with is named amy, just like my mom. so much like mom! she is very little and teaches art history, her hands aren’t as old looking but there is only one of my mom. i’m so excited to actually be on this journey. i've been worried, but it will subside because i should trust that i'm capable, 'cause i am! we had two back-to-back terrible movies, and only the second played in italiano, "Eragon" which i understood but can't get the dragon lexicon out of my head. i’m ready to get off this plane...and here we go.

in the car after arriving and my driver, Io (short for Fabrizio) is concentrated on the intense traffic as we drive from
malpenza to milan. there are lots of motorbikes and small cars on the highway. the drive is going to take an hour and that’s ok- the car is much nicer than the plane. it is a beautiful day. we watched the sun come up from the plane over snow-capped jagged peaks of the italian alps, the countryside was illuminated by the sun reflecting off dense fog creating an awesome array of lilac and rose. i’m in awe.
