The Tailor of Hoi An

These commy bastards are ace at sewing! And apparently Hoi An is the tailoring capital of Asia! We had a really nice time here- we ate like kings and queens and had other people make our clothes! Its easy when you have Great British Pounds Sterling in your wallet (and when you discover the fresh beer that costs 4000 dong - 12.5p - per litre!).

Choosing clothes is well fun- you look through all these fashion catalogues and magazines and mark any designs you like. Then you choose what fabric you want it made from and a little Vietnamese lady takes this info to her husband who makes it for you! Then you get to try it on while the tailor (wearing a jaunty hat) smokes a cigarette and admires his work, and you ask for the bits you want tightening and loosening etc. We got loads of stuff made, including two pairs of leather shoes each!

We ate some of the best food of our trip here too. Its was all pretty cheap with lots of local specialities (like noodles that are only authentic if they're made with water from the town's well- and only one family makes those noodles!). There was this cool restaurant down by the river called 'cafe des amis' (no fajitas here) that did a different set menu every night. The owner was the taster or whatever for the general of the South-Vietnamese Army before 1975! So he knows his stuff, and showed us how to eat it all. We did another cooking class here, but it was really lame! We basically just had a hand in cooking our own lunch. Gave us some cool ideas though!

Clothes
Love the suit Pete, but Ness' t-shirt gets my vote! Just been through all your new entries and it looks like you're still having an amazing time. The tigers rocked! Not so sure about the snake. When I was there he looked hungry so I let some other stupid person take him. adios xx
