Stay Away from Crazy Dave Guys - this is an awesome area, but let me tell you from personal experience, "Crazy Dave" is NOT cool. His hideout has a seriously bad vibe due to his belligerent drunkeness. It's not funny - he's loud, rude as hell, throws his (less than half his age) girlfriend around, and almost goes out of his way to make you feel seriously uncomfortable. Seriously - stay clear.
Dave Really? I was through in 2007 and stopped by for multiple meals at The Hideout while staying up the beach. I talked to Dave as much as possible and never experienced any belligerence or rudeness. Don't let the nickname fool you; half the expats I've met in Central America had the title "crazy", mostly just by virtue of being a foreigner.
