Rainbow Beach
Rainbow Beach living up to its name. Leaving Hervey Bay wasn't a difficult thing to do having spent maybe 4 days too many there. Destination Rainbow Beach. This thriving little seaside spot is another launch point for Fraser Island and famed for its rainbow coloured sands. The sand is indeed all the shades of the rainbow as long as the rainbow is only beige, orange and brown. It is still an attractive place especially when viewed from the Carlo Sand blow, a massive dune up on the cliffs with great vistas of the coastline. For some reason this is one of the beaches along the coast that is also classed as a public road making walking along it slightly hazardous. This allows fishermen to get to the best surf fishing spots and surfers to find the best waves. The vast majority of traffic seemed to be people driving along in their 4x4's because they could and somehow were justifying the purchase of a massive, gas guzzling Toyota by actually going off tarmac and not just using it to go to the shops.
From Rainbow beach we took a detour to Tin Can Bay, ostensibly to get a postcard to send to Em's brother in law who had

Its main drawcard is Mystique a resident dolphin who comes in to be fed daily in the morning. Predictably we missed it and the place didn't have enough of a draw to keep us there overnight to witness it the following day.
And so, with a little trepidation, we make for Noosa Heads. Noosa represents our planned eventual destination and so we were both expecting big things from the place. First impressions were just how busy but equally lovely the area is. The main drag, Hastings Street, was chocka. Very amusing to wander around and see the fashionistas out in force. The trend here, as in many places, is for girls to wear sunglasses that cover about a third of their faces so as you can't really tell if they are pretty or not. Usually not. Also many comical mother/daughter combos each trying to look like each other invariably resulting in both looking quite odd. This is in such stark contrast to Cairns that it is amusing but I wonder if

Future home
A couple of the modest holiday retreats on the Noosa riverfront.ferry cruise along the river gave us a great opportunity to gawk into these palatial properties and see how the rich people live. Very few were occupied, as they are almost all holiday homes for the super rich. One day!
As we are planning to live in Noosa it seemed only right that I should look for work. Having always found it very easy to find work I had assumed that after a couple of phone calls I would be juggling job offers. I hadn't considered that where I have previously worked (Sunderland, Prison etc) might be places that many people wouldn't choose as their dream locations. Noosa, however, is different and as such there isn't much room for new comers. I did get an interview and there is always government work available so we'll have to wait and see. That said we have no intention of stopping until the money runs out and so a move was in order after 4 nights.
The morning

I was waiting for it to go off and sure enough as soon as Em saw her mashed toe she very understandably; let me know all about it. I was a little like a rabbit in the headlights and was soon being yelled at to provide tissues and ice, turn off the bloody radio and fix the effing drawer. Funny thing shock. After some time we decided it wasn't broken and that there was no point going to hospital. I made the typical Dad jokes like "that'll have to come off- I'll get my penknife" and so forth. I provided painkillers and affection and Em pulled through. It's the worst kind of injury as it's not bad enough to warrant morphine but it's untouched by paracetamol and Em is still unable to walk without it bleeding. Her biggest fear in the first few

Thankfully, apart from a few more shops and restaurants springing up, it is still as nice as we remember it. Its crowning glory for us is the absolute beachfront campsite. It is possibly the best campsite in Australia in my opinion and the owners know it and charge like a wounded bull for the privilege. It is worth it though. Yesterday was a right off for Em with her foot up all day. Today we managed a hobble down the front for lunch out. Onlookers wondered why we were walking so slowly but soon winced and gave Em pitying smiles as they clocked the injury. I think secretly she likes the attention but I'm reasonably convinced she didn't do it on purpose!
Well in the next few days I'll learn if we have a future in Noosa
Floating Turtle
This little fella was saved by some fishermen. Having an air bubble makes diving for food a bit of a problem so off to the vet to be vented! or if we have to truck on. Que sera, sera and all that - I'm sure we'll manage. In the meantime we're going to kick about along the coast and wait for Em to heal.

Sunset on Mooloolaba beach as seen from our back door. a good thing having a squashed big toe, have done similar with a kitchen drawer - v painful and remember that the only cure for such injury is chocolate (in large quantities, this is better when accompanied by a good wine) and a quality nail varnish to cover up the injured digit - actually you are best off doing all your toe nails, not just the injured one as that may look rather odd!Hope it is soon better and your nail stays intact. Loved the Rainbow beach comments, maybe the person who decided on the name was colour blind? Have fun guys, looking forward to next installment! love and sparkles from Julia, Simon, Ashleigh and Maia xxx
