The Trip for Matt's Wedding

Catching Up with Fi's FamilyCatching Up with Fi's FamilyCatching Up with Fi's Family

Here's a great photo of Fi with her family at the Airport just before we flew to Brisbane.
Well, Ladies and Gents, as many of you are aware we recently managed to sneak a very quick trip back to Australia into our very busy schedules. Fiona could get the time off from work quite easily, but it was quite an effort for me to fit it in between surfing and watching Jerry Springer. Anyway, the reason for a journey was that my brother is such an inconsiderate prick that he decided to get married to his lovely fiance Nicola after we had moved to the States. It was a vain attempt to make sure I would not be at the wedding.

Fi and I set off on Saturday 31 March flying out of Jacksonville heading to LA via Dallas. Well, what a bloody disaster. We were delayed two hours out of Jacksonville which meant we were arriving 1 hour after our connecting flight to LA, which put our flights in Australia in jeopardy. Any, we arrived at Dallas and ran off the plane searching for monitors telling us what gate our flight was departing from in the hope it hadn't left yet. Well, wasn't that a stupid idea - every bloody monitor was for television - what a

stupid idea to think an airport would display flight times and departure gates. Anyway we ran through the airport with our life size cutout of George Bush (see attached photos) and luckily enough our connector had also been delayed and we arrived just as they were finishing boarding. So after some good and bad luck we arrived in Sydney about 27 hours later - it was now the 2nd of April, we had completely missed April Fools Day in the flights!!

While we stayed in Sydney we were lucky enough to be put up in the 'Castillo de Sven' - no that's not a Swedish massage parlour, it was the 'Attic of Sin' and Sven's house. It was quite funny to be home though - we didn't realise that we had been home sick at all until we arrive back in Sydney. Traveling really makes you appreciate how amazing Australia truly is - it was good to be home. During our time in Sydney I managed to catch up with Sven (obviously) and Apo while Fi went and had a girls night with Sharne - I think they just had a pillow fight in their undies, but it sounds

like a great way to spend the night to me - sorry we don't have any photos. We were then lucky enough to catch up with Kate Kirkman which is fun as always. Fi's parents then came up to see us before headed off to Brisbane - it was great to see them and they are excited about their US trip which is coming up soon.

We arrived in Brissy on Thursday the 5th April and spent a bit of time with Ian and Sandy, Matt and Nic before Liehry and Jamo rocked up with a slab of beer unannounced. Well, that got things going, and 2 slabs of beer, 3 bottles of wine, some JD and Macca's Cheeseburgers later we decided to call it a morning at about 4 am. The next day, and a little worse for wear, we went around to Liehry's new place for lunch which turned into beers (thanks Mick) which turned into dinner. Anyway, after some great hospitality and good times we headed up to Melany for the wedding.

We arrived in Melany and had dinner at the Pennyfarthing Hotel which had amazing views from the mountains down to the Sunshine Coast

This is at dinner the night before the wedding - thought it was a nice photo.
- had to pay for it though - $8.50 for a beer! What the?!?! Anyway, after a couple of beers we called it a day and hit the sack. We got up the next morning and headed into town for a coffee before the wedding. All preparations went smoothly the next day and before we knew it we were getting dressed for the wedding. I may have had some trouble with my tie and had to get help but that hasn't been confirmed....I obviously looked amazingly handsome in a charcoal pinstripe suit (nice pick Nic), and Matt looked slightly better than mediocre in a suitably brown pinstripe number (I always knew you would end up going the brown Matt!!).

The exceptionally handsome Grooms Party then headed across to Laurals (the wedding place) to await the bride. Nicola and the Bridal party arrived and they all looked absolutely stunning. The service was really lovely, very romantic without being soppy - a few tears were shed (the majority by the bride) and the marriage was sealed with a somewhat pornographic MA15+ kiss.

The weather held off as the Wedding Party went off for photos. The back drop of the Glasshouse

Mountains with Matt's shit-eating grin in front of it will make for amazing photos - oh yeah, Nic looked pretty good too. Needless to say there was a lot of 'Blue Steel' being thrown around......check out some of the photos. It was now time for the reception.

The reception was set up beautifully and was done really well. Rather than have a whole series of speeches one after the other they were broken up throughout the night which was a really good idea. Ian gave a great speech as Father of Bride, I mean Groom. Although, he did make the mistake of referring to both his daughters in law as 'thick', a mistake which somehow I am still paying for (not sure how that works). As correct as he might be it was not a good idea.....I think you've got some payback coming your way Ian. What was funny was that within 5 minutes of referring to Nicola as clumsly she had dropped her cutlery off the table and broken Matt's brand new digitial camera!! Not happy Jan! All the speeches were really funny and well done which made the night very entertaining, but it was time for the

fun to begin.

Dancing and merriment commenced and things were moving along quite nicely, although I had a terrible feeling of impending disaster when I visited the Prest table to see Zack on the JD with a mischievous glint in his eye. What a prophetic feeling that turned out to be. Within the hour Zack was on stage with band singing 'Wild Thing', it was just a pity he couldn't remember any of the words, including 'Wild Thing'. So after 3 minutes of screaming and grunting into the microphone, a red wine soaked Zackgot off the stage and returned to where he belonged - Meegan's doghouse. Things elsewhere were progressing well, John Dellava was smashing more VB than a beer delivery truck running off a bridge and Fiona was dancing up a storm with anyone within about a 10 metre radius of her. It was this time that the DJ/Muso dude made a fatal mistake - he played the Eagle Rock. I didn't actually hear the song as I was engaged in an intellectual debate at the time (read talking shit), but was quickly tackled by a pantless Liehry and dragged onto the dance floor. Disappointingly Matt's lame friends

Nice Matt....
(including Matt) were now too snobby to participate in possibly the greatest Defence tradition of all time, which left only a handfull of us on the dance floor (you've changed Matt). Well it took Joyce about 30 secs to make her way to the dance floor and commence slapping Liehry on the arse again - apparently 5 years between drinks was just too long. After defending several attacks from my aunties the song finished and we regained our dignity, although Gran wanted to know if the DJ would play the 'Pants down Song' again.

It was about this time that the George W Bush cutout made an appearance at the wedding and didn't he have a great time. He was dry humped by Liehry, danced with Kym and David, and I'm not even going to say what he did with my aunty Susan, but he was later hear saying "I did not have relations with that woman!" As usual, all good things must come to an end and all too soon it was time to leave. The Bride and Groom said their goodbyes and we all headed home. I walked out of the reception hall and I could hear

Amazing backdrop...
a whole heap of commotion in the thick bush that surrounded the Laurals reception centre. I went over to investigate and found Zack stumbling around the bushes trying to find his way home. I was so very tempted to leave him, or send him in the wrong direction (which was pretty much the way he was going), but my conscious got the better of me and we sent him home - we thought after his night that going home would be punishment enough. Next morning we got up and did a final catch up with all the family before heading back to Brisbane and flying home on Tuesday.

All in all it was a fantastic wedding, and we wish Matt and Nic all the happiness in the future. It was great to catch up with all the family again and as usual we had a great time. Hopefully it is not as long between drinks next time and we see you all sooner rather than later.

A little blue steel is never enough.
Nice work with the blog, filled in a few details that I errr well you know. I was an awesome night and I've gotta say it was good of George W to make an appearance. 8.50 beers, don't get me started.
