The view from South Bank
From shopping to history and heritage attractions, parks and gardens, museums, markets and bars there's heaps to discover in Melbourne. As our week here is quickly coming to an end it must be said that we've had a brilliant time here in St Kilda staying at a place called the Base. By Hostel standards its pretty sweet, has flat screen tv's and a bar called "The Red Eye." As we were staying in the Sanctuary room we were even entitled to free champagne every nite for an hour--pretty sweet.

Thursday was ladies nite at the Red Eye bar in our hostel --as you can tell from the photos there was an interesting crowd there, some guys will do anything for a free drink..ha. All in all though it was a great nite with free drinkies til about midnight, dj and karaoke. We met lots of people who have already travelled up the coast so got some great tips and advice.

We also met some really cool people in our dorm room ( shoutouts to Caroline from Scotland and Anita from Germany) and hung out with them during the week. The Easter Holidays meant that alot of things/places we wanted to see and do were shut, but we made the best of it and hit Melbourne city centre and also strolled down Swanson street to see the famous Flinder Street Station and Federation Square. Then took in the skyline sights from South Bank along the Yarra river.

We also managed to take in a show on Friday nite with Linday starring Dillon Moran (Irish comedian) at the Melbourne Comedy festival (they sure do love their festivals here in Melbourne)--it was a good laugh.

The next day we checked out the Queen Victoria Markets for some retail therapy. While there I managed to meet up with Tameeka who works with me at Arthur Cox, boy this world is just getting smaller and smaller. After that we got in a taxi to beat the 5pm closing time and hit up a shop on Chapel street called "Tightrope" where I managed to pick up a top (the excitment of a new shirt is already just soo overwhelming when your backpacking..ha ha)

Easter Sunday, we met up with Lindsay (who p.s. will be joining myself and Brenda up the eastcoast once we meet up in Brisbane--yay!) and her

brother and his girlfriend Donna at a restaurant called "Mash," we all enjoyed a lovely roast, shared our chocolate eggs and had a few cocktails. Was great just to be in good company on the day that was in it.

Yesterday I hit the shops on Acland Street along with some of the cake shops and then went to the St. Kilda beach which was packed as it was a public holiday again here.

Today myself and Brenda checked out and said our goodbyes and are preparing ourselves for the 12 hour journey that awaits us en route to Sydney.

The question everyone always asks is "Are you a Melbourne or a Sydney girl?" At this stage, can't say.... will let you know in another week once we finish our tour of Sydney.

G'dday Mates!

Ahh, looks like so much fun! Glad you were able to have a fun Easter celebration despite being away from home. The sights in Melbourne look incredible. The photo of the Luna Park entrance at night looked amazing. I also love that view of Melbourne from Federation Square. Great photography! :) Hope you have a blast in Sydney!!
