Me by Devils Throat
By this waterfall you are so close that you get really wet from the water spray, the noice it self was an experience So, maybe time for a little update?
I know it's been a while since the last time, but lets just say that we did other stuff than hanging around computers? ;-)
Well, we've had time to visit some amazing places with the GAP tour that we have been on, and it has been great! Today is our last day, so we are checking in to a hostel and are leaving the group.
After Ilha Grande, we went to a really nice place called
Paraty, which was a pretty place with old colonial houses. It´s an UNESCO marked city, so the old town is saved from all kinds of changes, even the roads are just mudd and some stones to walk on (supposed to be cubblestone but its more like one stone here and one stone there). But the houses are really nice, with colored doors and white walls.. quite calm place as well.
IGUASSU FALLS
After Paraty we got on a very long bus journey. First 6 hours in a bus to Sao Paolo, and then 15(!) hour bus to Iguassu waterfalls. We were not looking forward to this at all! But in the end it
Our group
Our group at Iguassu Falls, Brasilian Side was actually ok, you slept all the way and woke up in a new place.
They have surprisingly good buses around here, with seats that you can almost fall back totally in, so its almost like a bed! And you get blankets, pillows and snacks. The bus actually looked like the first class seats of an airplane!
When we finally got to Foc de Iguaçu (the city on the Brasilian side of the waterfalls) we only had one our to get ready before we had to head out again to go and see the waterfalls.
Depending on the waterlevel you can see between 160 and 260 waterfalls!!!
The biggest one is called devils throat, and its a huge waterfall which you can see from different angels depending on what side of the falls you are.
This nature reserve with waterfalls and birds, monkeys and other animals, are located at the boarders of Brasil, Argentina and Paraguay, all with different views and features. You definetley need one day at the Brasilian and one day at the Argentinian.
The falls from the Brasilian side was really pretty, and i think that's where we got the nicest pictures from, but the
Waterfall
One of all the waterfalls coolest experience was the next day on the Argentinian side!
On the
Brasilian side, it's quite a small walk to go and see the waterfalls, you can if you want go up in a helicopter, which some people from our group did, but not me and Chris.
The
Argentinian side was more of an adventure, and very well organised.
You started of to walk a green trail through jungle and you could see giant ants, little wild guinepigs and birds like Tucans (SO PRETTY!) and then you got to a little ecological train which takes you closer to the main attraction -
Devils Throat which is a huge waterfall, seen best from this side of the falls.
You walked about 1 km on bridges over rivers where you can find Kaymans and Alligators, and then you reach the huge fall. And you get SOAKED in water, the spray from the waterfall is equal to a shower! It was so powerful though, and probably the most amazing natural scene I've ever seen!
After we've seen this spectacular fall we went back with the train to have lunch, and then we headed of for a boat ride by the falls! And that
was so much fun!
The people who went in helicopter the day before actually said that the boat ride was much more fun!
You started by jumping into a jeep which took you through more jungle, with a guide telling you a bit about the flora around, and then you get to the river.
Here you take of your clothes and sit in bikini, cause you now that you are gonna get really really wet! And you get this plastic bag for you belonging.
Its a speed boat, and it goes really fast! It was really cool to actually see the falls from underneath as well, cause then you understood how big they actually are.
The high light of the boat trip was to get driven in through a waterfall about 3 times, and it was so much water that you could't see a thing! It was really fun!
Day 2 at the Argentinian side of the falls were definitley the greatest!
When we were up at these cities by the falls, we took the chance and went over to Paraguay as well... and it wasn't the nicest I've seen. Very dirty, and people coming up to you
Bird in a tree
A bit of wildlife on the Argentinian side of the waterfalls on the street selling everything from socks til big knives (lucky the try and sell it to you, not rob you with it), but they also had a big shopping centre, with mainly electric stuff, and I got myself a 516 mb MP3 player, since mine that I brought is broken... and that only cost me 23 dollars!
When up at the falls we also went to a traditional Brasilian restaurant, where you ate SO much meat, that you couldn't move after.
You buy a buffe, and you get to go and pick your own salad, and during the time your there, the waiters come around with a big stick with different kinds of meat, and ask you if you want a slice of this or that etc, and it is so much food! Really nice meat as well.
My favourite thing was grilled pineapple with cinnamon though.. that was really nice! And I probably ate more of that than anything else!
Ok, time to stop writing now...
We have still Uruguay and our first experiences of Argentina to talk about... but we'll do that later..
I've put up some pictures from Rio and Ilha grande,
Land of butterflies
It was butterflies everywhere, sitting on you, flying around. Really pretty. and more are coming!!!
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!
