Xela
There was no large Mardi Gras like in pre-Lent Brazil but in the evenings there were lots of religious happenings.
Also, the university students at this time of year tend to dress up in black K.K.K. type get-ups to extort money from businesses for helping sponsor education programs (I suspect in the form of ideas at the local bar).
Xela was comfortable in that after awhile you recognized many people from the various schools. And since there were limited number of night activities you often saw familar faces. There´s a number of gyms and the aerobic classes are very popular although I was usually the only guy in the class. It´s surprisingly cold here at night because of its 2000 metres altitude. It went down to 5 degrees Celsius one night and the rooms are not heated. Fortunately, they usually give you several thick woolen blankets so its not too bad.
My visa was about to expire so I had to leave the country.
