I cannot believe this!!I cannot believe this!!I cannot believe this!!

Yes these girls are real! I bumped into them at the shops and they were there for the Miss USA. The ladies love the English accent... ;-)
Following on from my last blog (Fiji), I need to mention that my time on Mana Island did actually improve greatly towards the end. At the end of the week there was an influx of good people and the atmosphere changed drastically. I suppose this is the thing with such small places, it all depends on the people you are randomly thrown together with. After my stint on the tropical island I returned to Viti Levu and found a really nice place to stay, just of outside Nadi Town. Caught up with a few of my old friends from Mana during the week and generally tried to get some relaxation by the pool.

I crossed the international date line and equator over the Pacific in rapid succession, gaining some time in the process. In fact my arrival into LAX preceeded my departure from Fiji! Gaining a day crossing the date line was the saving grace for Jules Verne's Phileas Fog, but I was in no particular hurry. I stepped out of LAX to be confronted with the sight of cherry blossom trees in bloom lining the roadway. This cast my thoughts back to that first day in Tokyo, strolling through Ueno Park, reminding me again of the length of time that has passed.

So, a brief look at LA from my base on Hollywood Boulevard. Did the short of time tourist thing and hopped on a sightseeing tour (maybe not the best way to see LA, but I did get to see some "homes of the stars"!!). Got the ubiquitous picture of the 'Hollywood' sign, a nice scenic view over LA from a high point on Mullholland Drive, and a look at the carpark of Universal Studios!

America wasn't as bad as I had first expected, LA seems quite a nice city (if you are wealthy!), but Hollywood and Sunset are a bit run down. I regret not visiting in a way that could lead me to any greater insights, but my time there was limited so I'll leave it there and continue from the East Coast...
