The Beach
Ao Nang, the tides out so everyone is in the Red Lion. Ao Nang, is a little beach resort just outside Krabbi town, we flew into Krabbi and headed straight to the beach for a break from the city, lets see what all the hype surrounding Thai beaches is all about.
So we got a shabby room in an overpriced, yet still the cheapest, guest house, infested with ants and with electrical points that you are scared to touch. This didn't bother us as we are here for the beaches!
The next day we went down to check them out. Hmmmmmm, hopefully this is not the best Thailand has to offer, it reminds us too much of the Costa del Sol. The less than clean beach is crowded with speedo sporting expats and the water clarity is poor. In addition, the overpriced western bars the neon and the endless stream of touts and tourists don't make this anything other than a package holiday destination. That is not necessarily a bad thing, its just not the idylic paradise that you expect from Thailand.
But, its not all bad, the surrounding scenery is great with rugged cliffs plunging into the sea and a scattering of islands in the distance, plus the
The Islands
Much better than the mainland beaches water is like a warm bath. We took a one day island snorkelling trip which was well worth the cash, visiting four of the local islands and a different mainland beach all of which were much better than Ao Nang. White sand and clear water as you would expect.
Also, can't praise the street food enough, best thing if you are on a budget. Fifty pence for Pad Thai freshly prepared and cooked infront of you. So good why bother with an expensive restaurant.

At least the cliffs and beach by them look good. Noticed that you are doing a fair bit of moaning about thailand. is it not as good as nam? Dad
