this cake can do anything
Well I've successfully turned 21 in both New Zealand and the United States. It was pretty cool to have it last for both days...in fact technically it still is my birthday in New York as I type. The day was great!
It started off with being woken up at midnight by Erika, Tamara, and Kelly and they had made me very nice homemade cards which I love! I quickly climbed back into bed and slept in. They came over for lunch and brought a delicious cake...yellow with chocolate frosting my fav! This cake was like...the survivor cake. Both of the ovens they tried to cook it in were malfunctioning, so it ended up getting cooked on the stovetop. The took video clips...it was quite the ordeal. But it was "made with love" haha so it turned out really great! They also gave me the best beer mug I've ever seen that says "Happy Beerday 21 years old, ring bell when empty" and it has a bell attached to the handle. Best gift ever. I also got a great card from the girls in Geneseo which was a musical card so I could sing and dance to it, which made me happy. My internet was also set back up that afternoon so that was a GREAT birthday present coutesy of the IT Dept. at Canterbury. Later in the afternoon I had another knock on the door and Dennis, Bjorn, and Christian had made me a brownie cake too! TWO cakes in one day! Even better that one was cake and one was a brownie! Sooo good. A bunch of us went to dinner at the Mexican Cafe, this little mexican place in town. It was pretty overpriced but it's tought to find too many Mexican places here so it's good for special occasions. They had the largest selection of Tequilla I have ever seen in my life. The bar was insane. I had my first US legal margarita and it was verrry good. Dinner was great and it was nice to have everyone out with me. Everyone from my flat came as well as Chris and the girls. After the Mexican most of the group went home (it was a monday night after all) but Erika, Tamara, and Kelly took me out for some drinks. We stopped at the Holy Grail, which is a huge sports bar. I think it's like 3 stories high with giant screens and huge pics of rugby players all over the place. The bartenders were great and gave me some free shots which made me happy! There was a guy near us that was on his company's tab so he provided all of us with some really good drinks as well. I also had my first cosmo, which made me feel very "Sex and the City". After the Grail we headed to Mickey Finns and danced a little and played some pool. By this time it was a little after midnight, the girls had classes the next day, and I had had plenty to drink already so we called a cab and headed home. It was such a great day! Everyone really went out of their way to make it so good. It was a great 21st! : )
